So.. brainstorming on music integrations, what would make for an amazing experience for both users and artists?   Throw out your ideas here!

Just off the top of my head, brainstorming out loud here:

Two buttons, one to like, one to subscribe (ongoing support is better than one time payments).

For individual songs, we’ll want a clear zap button that’s hard to miss. A secondary follow button might be nice too, or a like button might work well if we can use that to discover other music.

Upon song ending, it would be amazing to recommend other music either from that artist, or from others that the artist recommends. This could be autoplay or manual. This is a great marketing loop for everyone participating and a good way to discover something the artist you’re supporting likes.

Mini playlist renders either within the timeline or within other parts of UI would be cool. Of course, this is probably easier said than done, but imagine being able to listen to entire playlists instead of a single song. People could then curate playlists and share. This could be done within another specialized client that is specifically designed to do this well. Bonus points if you can just share this elsewhere and it renders nicely even outside of nostr.

For clients with multiple column UIs, it would be amazing if you could add a player as a widget of sorts and that pulls your playlist, or others’s playlists.

Speaking of playlists, how do we give them their own pages? Make playlists linkable from anywhere.

What other wild behavior can nostr enable? What is possible now that wasn’t then?   Is this difficult to make? I don’t know, you tell me. I’m just throwing out ideas to see if any resonate with the shadowy supercoders 😅

12 years ago there used to be this indie music site called thesixtyone.com which was a fantastic community experience with upcoming artists, trending songs, comments, gamification, you could so what other liked and find new music. I think it was a thing of it's time.

Soundcloud is a great example for what to strive for, when looking how a music site based on nostr could look. But for my taste user generated content (likes, playlists, trends, comments) should be feature more front end center with the music.

Hence my for the most part comment. This is what makes it complicated. Telling people that they should create an account on nostr.build or satellite.earth to be able to upload longer videos is a bad experience.

Images and short 1080p videos up to a 1 minute should be doable. Long form video (i.e. Youtube) is a different use case IMHO and not only comes with storage and bandwidth costs but also with copyright infringement claims etc.

Ultimately this can only be solved by an anonymous and decentralized encrypted file storage + CDN solution built with P2P and monetary incentives (e.g. bitcoin over cashu).

Thanks for the mention. I have created slidestr.net mostly to vizualize media that is already on nostr, i.e. it is read only for now. I think to rival an Instagram or Tiktok a native client would be best, especially for video creation.

Having a cover image would be great. we could probably use the "image" tag already used in NIP-23

I'm writing a JS framework based on NDK and React for quickly developing nostr web apps with a bunch of goodies: session management, onboarding, i18n, premade components for feeds, notes, long form, zapping... I'm going to port my gear to use it and build a docs site, it'll take some time but once is ready it could speed up nostr app development significantly by allowing devs to focus on what makes their client different instead of the boring parts that all share. I think I'll call it #ngine 👨‍🏭

don't fall for it. google's move to block all 3rd party cookies in chrome may technically be better than 3rd party tracking cookies, but chrome's "privacy sandbox" absolutely still tracks you.

only now, like #apple, google wants to add billions more in ad revenue to it's bottom line by collecting, controlling, and monopolizing ALL of your data (behavior, location, digital, financial, medical etc)

the eff (electronic frontier foundation) recommends turning off "privacy sandbox" or better switching browsers.

i strongly recommend switching to a hardened browser with tracking protection like mullvad or librewolf with #ublockorigin. the more people that use these hardened browsers, the better your browser's unique fingerprint can blend in with the crowd
