With Torrents over Nostr, we now have the opportunity to Zap for Seeding. This allows for the value for value model to flow into a brand new market. nostr:npub1v0lxxxxutpvrelsksy8cdhgfux9l6a42hsj2qzquu2zk7vc9qnkszrqj49 could we get Zaps and Zap Splits amongst seeders added to DTAN?

Find a torrent you like? Zap them 1000 sats and have it split between the 10 people seeding it? Hell yeah!
Zaps, reactions, reports. Friend-based clusters. Torrents now can easily get fully-fledged social features.

You're right. We should be able to have reactions and reports too. We don't want to have people seeding viruses without a way to alert users.
I used Plex from 2008 until 2022. I then switched to Jellyfin. Jellyfin is fully FOSS, but yes, I agree an integration like that would be wild.

Harder to run, needs a gpu for transcoding. And can it be run as a client app or does it always need a server backend?

The question is how you would track seeders when they want to remain anonymous on the bittorrent network. Might also be safer to just list the torrents instead of connecting the site to the DHT.

Harder to do zap splits among seeders since you would have to trust a centralized tracker that accounts who seeded what, associated IPs with npub (bad idea) and dynamically changed the split.
Sounds like that would be better accomplished on an entirely different protocol that doesn't need so many centralizing tradeoffs.

If you ask me, seeding does not need any incentive. Bittorrent works just fine without seeding incentives.
I don't my seeding just out of altruism and plenty of others do the same.
i seed for extended periods of time for credits on my private trackers. i then use that credit to buy more upload credit.
The concern I have with Torrenting is that it doesn't work over Tor or I2P. So strong anonymity is not really possible.
IPFS - https://www.ipfs.io/ - has the same use cases as Bittorrent, but DOES work with strong anonymity - I've been running a node as a hidden service for a year now.
