Basically trying to work out why Windows 10, Update is takes so long an I have ruled out:
Network speed
Lack of processing power
Inadequate memory
Disk speed
My hypothesis is that something is blocking IO, which is slowing down a relatively trivial, but large update. I'm beginning to think Windows Defender is locking the IO threads for the MoUSO process (the newfangled-ish updating infrastructure for Windows). Which is, maybe, artificially (deliberately?) massively slowing down the update*.
Assuming the update can be regarded as trusted it seems redundant and careless that Windows Defender is using at least one core at close to full utilisation. On a fresh install.
I am fairly ignorant about Windows - about the same as the average person reviewing it.
* Or there is no IO process/thread blocking it's just - see I don't understand how it can be that slow. I get why Android/iOS updates are slow but not Windows 10 onwards with enough resources. Unless it's doing something really odd and computationally intensive. Except it isn't - I can monitor it quite well inside a KVM container.

I don't think most Linux Distros have the equivalent of "Preparing to configure Windows" (1hr+ so far)* or "Optimizing Your Device" or a ridiculous, meaningless, update progress bar. I am taking such messages from devices on faith much in the way that people in Idiocracy think Brawndo is what plants craveโ .
* In fairness it's in a KVM instance, but it's really not badly specified. What I object to is the lack of transparency. It needs a button I can click to show me what it's actually doing - like 'tail -f logfile'. Otherwise I'm tempted to believe there's just a timer as a kind of sadistic mass practical joke. It's getting towards the compile time of a huge application. Windows Update - so thorough it takes approximately the same time as recompiling Windows.
โ Idiocracy is deeply flawed, but good, much like The Marching Morons was deeply flawed but good. The Little Black Bag would make a better screen adaption. I wonder if Mike Judge drinks Smart Water with a wry smile.

A 'once a decade is probably not too much of a risk' pudding.
"While cooking, the filling ingredients create a thick, caramelized sauce, which upon serving and cutting of the pudding, runs out and pools around the plate, creating a "pond". After cooking for so long, the skin of the lemon, if included, almost candies like a marmalade in its own juices and that of the butter and sugar."
'Ultra-processed food raises risk of heart attack and stroke, two studies show'
Diet studies are very difficult and there are always going to be post-hoc elements/confounding variables involving lifestyles, but I think this is important and there are minimum of two or three scandals waiting to happen that I'm underqualified to volunteer my opinions of why*:
* although I very much avoid artificial sweeteners (harder than you'd thinkโ ), carboxylmethylcellulose emulsifiers (harder than you'd thinkโก), polysorbate 80, low fat alternatives, and try to mostly eat stuff cooked from fresh because that's what I'm evolved to eat. A bit like a pig discovered fire. I don't care about MSG or 'natural flavouring' and have no fear of chemicals when making an informed choice. But, counterintuitively, it seems taste, mouthfeel and palatability, may affect how we digest things, independently of ingredients - see low fat alternatives.
โ in my best Charlton Heston voice "they put it in the pickle!".
โก I love pies: Steak and Kidney, beef, chicken and bacon, cheese and onion, steak and ale, apple, blackcurrant and apple, gooseberry and game. There is an extensive list, which I'll spare you, but basically not so keen on mushrooms. TBF there is also a list of steamed puddings.

I got the longest word last which was a minor annoyance because the trick with this one is using the double letter scores in each round, therefore it is possible to get a higher score with shorter words in the right places (although all words been 7+ letters in 12 rounds will be, at the lowest, around 220). My highest score is 375 but I don't play it that often. It's Sunday and I am walking with a stick (hip tendonitis - 3/10 annoyance but transitory) and bored. My average is 211 because I played a few low scoring games while learning the game.
I will likely not post a Blossom score regularly. I'd get into music or something if regularly incapacitated. Maybe the Venezuelan Cuatro - primarily because it's an instrument that, in my opinion, sounds bloody annoying.

I prefer to save my redundant energy intake for mint humbugs or Marvellous Creations or puddings. Maybe some other sweets. At 0.5% alcohol it has about the same alcohol as many bottled fruit juices.
