Framed #698 (nope. I thought it was The Seventh Seal. Yesterday was a bit of a wave of feeling much better followed by the return of a fever followed by feeling much better. I watched the first episode of series 2 of Our Flag Means Death a kind of Carry On Pirating with more contemporary sensibilities. I watched a little more of The Man In The High Castle which I think drew a small inspiration from Charlie Stross' excellent Merchant Princes Series (although the ominibus versions starting with The Bloodline Feud, followed by The Traders War then The Revolution trade, are far better versions). I still have this viral thing. I unfollowed Russell Brand on Instagram because I read the comments*. I don't give a poop who follows or watches whom but I can choose who I follow on social media. I'll do WordAll later on a full stomach. The Man in The High Castle TV series is very good BTW.)

Framed #697 (I have seen it though. Basically I've got a bad cold or some viral thing or head aids. Mercifully it hasn't gone to my chest. I hate that. Ultimately a person can only go on how they feel and I don't feel that bad. Dad is still in hospital, on his birthday, and I can't go and visit because giving someone who is in hospital a virus seems at best foolish. I crave fresh air though, which is a good sign, and I no longer feel at all shivery. Mad fever dreams. I forced myself to eat a double quarter pounder burger last night which was a little like climbing a mildly difficult hill. I figure feeding the leukocytes and T-Cells readily digestible protein was a good idea. Maybe. It took effort keeping it down. I didn't feel this rough when I had COVID, twice, but then I'm not in an at risk group. Flu was the pits. I can't be bottomed to do WordAll. It requires concentration. Maybe later.)

Framed #695 (nope. There are various YouTube channels dedicated to reviewing Thomas The Tank Engine. I think, as far as hobbies or obsessions or interests with popular culture go, it's no worse or better than anything else. I watched several of those repeatedly with a quite autistic adult nephew and the reviews of old VHS tapes of Thomas The Tank Engine align with his interests. Thomas and The Missing Christmas tree, series 2 episode 26, is one of his favourites, Thomas collects a Christmas tree on behalf of the Fat Controller. The island of Sodor, based upon the Isle of Man, has appalling weather and a questionable approach to health and safety. Thomas encounters a snow drift and because he is in a hurry uses his whistle which buries him in an avalanche. Because Thomas is late all the other engines get annoyed with him until the Fat Controller tells them Thomas is probably stuck, because it's implied by the telephone lines being down. Donald and Douglas, Scottish twins based on Caledonian Railway (CR) McIntosh 652 Class 0-6-0 goods engines, who are good at ploughing snow, seek out and rescue Thomas whom manages to deliver the Christmas tree on time. The episode ends in the dark, at Tidmouth sheds, and the engines have been given permission to sing Christmas carols. It culminates in a countdown to the lights been switched on, father Christmas been delivered by Harold The Helicopter, the engines chant three cheers for Thomas and it finishes on We Wish You A Merry Christmas. It's narrated by Ringo Starr who was in a band*. Our in joke is that Thomas got rescued by Donald and Douglas in Thomas Comes To Breakfast which is part of the same series. The people who contribute(d) to the Thomas Wikia** and review videos are great. Another mantra we repeat is that "Thomas has the best fans in the world". Which is probably true. The family emergency continues. I have picked up a cold and cough from a 4 year old. Also, I can tell you which adverts are on several VHS tapes of Thomas and Friends.)

Framed #694 (yes. I watched The Man In The High Castle. I'm quite distracted by a, hopefully not too bad, family emergency. It's horrible to feel powerless and also a bit egotistical. I'm sorry to be a bit cryptic but I don't think talking too much about it will help. I did some childcare yesterday looking after a four, coming on five year-old, who was delightful although under the weather enough to be off school. I think I may very much dislike Minecraft videos. They've actually made me nostalgic for the days of Stampylongnose, which may sound like hyperbole, but he had production values. We did get two thirds of the way through an episode of the Dara Ó Briain/Angela Scanlon era Robot Wars, which I found while going through an electronic program guide. And a French cartoon, in English, called Mush Mush and the Mushables. I'm not sure why it exists. One solid game of Hoot Owl Hoot!, which I think would be better with more kids, and I just let him play with Rhino Hero as long as we kept all the bits for another time. Changed a computer Wi-Fi adapter to use 802.11ax which substantially improved the performance. The usual Saturday ahead.)

Framed #692 (nope. Thursday is the new Wednesday. People say A is the new B*. I think what they mean is A has replaced B or A is like B under a given or implied set of circumstances. So Wednesday must be the old Thursday. But then another day will become the new Thursday, for instance Friday, and Friday would be the new Thursday which was the old Wednesday and old Friday. And, eventually, all the way around to Tuesday. Tuesday being the new Monday. Monday was the old Tuesday, Sunday, Saturday, Friday, Thursday and Wednesday. Then, maybe, Wednesday would be back to being Wednesday. Maybe I'm overthinking it. I doubt it goes sequentially. Everything is a bit like everything else in varying amounts. Today's a bit like Wednesday. Time is boss and a person is incidentally there**. Snowclones are useful but necessarily quite limited.)

Framed #691 (nah. I did watch anything because of Windows 10. I was upgrading a nephew's PC. Which involves taking out most of its insides and replacing them with newer bits. In this case it was quite fiddly but I know what I'm doing. The hardware, the physical bits, were fine. I was methodical. Then the software, after much waiting while it did stuff, broke in several places and Windows is opaque. It was hard to work out where it was breaking. It's evolved software and Byzantine. It has to work on lots of different types of computers and lots of different software. This isn't wholly a criticism of Windows or Microsoft but it's as if lots of different groups designed lots of different bits of it and all those bits have ideosyncracies. I mostly use Linux. Linux benefited from something called POSIX - a set of standardisations, kind of like etiquette, that means it can roughly be worked out what is happening in a way that is understood. With Windows there are error codes and logs that can be read with the software you're trying to fix. After a person has fixed it. Not necessarily useful while fixing it. I'm basically a bit crap at it and all the advice I got from actual experts led to reinstalling Windows, much as all roads lead to Rome. So I did that and it wouldn't activate - switch everything on - because Windows wasn't licensed for the new hardware. Fair enough, a deal's a deal. So I had to buy Windows, which I don't really have a problem with, outside of I, personally, would rather use Linux. So I finished up with the mucking around with computers at about 2:30 and I got up at six. The computer is essentially a new computer ready for redownloading games. My brain hasn't recovered despite praying to St Gav the patron saint of IT support.)

Framed #690 (yes. I enjoyed it. I watched episode one of The Man in The High Castle. I'm in a hurry today so I'm trying not to get diverted into talking about several aspects of it that bugged me. It was good show, they're not really aimed at the show, just how by making out the Nazis to be great at science it's ignoring the German Empire's education and intellectual achievements and giving too much credit to batshit racists. Everyone stands on the shoulders of giants - except it seems in popular coverage of the Nazis which often avoids the context of the academic and intellectual freedoms which they hijacked like trematodes and led into the abyss. I'm greatly summarising my rant. They weren't special they were parasites that nearly killed their host.)
