The violation of the 1994 Budapest Memorandum—through which Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons in exchange for U.S. protection and Russia’s guarantee of non-invasion—along with the U.S.’s recent shift toward aligning with Russia, has reinforced two crucial lessons: never rely on others for your security, and the only weapon capable of stopping a mad expansionist is a nuclear one.
Donald Trump once again claimed that the U.S. has invested $300 billion in Ukraine’s defense, while Europe has contributed only $100 billion. However, according to the U.S. Congress, led by Trump’s party, the actual allocation was $170 billion, of which approximately $119 billion has been used. Notably, around 80% of that amount remained in the U.S., funding the American defense industry to produce equipment sent to Ukraine.
Trump also stated that “either Ukraine signs the minerals agreement, or there will be problems,” adding that he intends to secure up to $500 billion in profits. https://video.nostr.build/cbc8eb28ca4918a99f1141f9ce0e0ca04b22ec9824bd5b513501831f51545737.mp4
Although Trump claimed that a deal involving Ukrainian minerals is close to being signed and could yield up to $500 billion, Sky News reported that Zelensky is not inclined to sign the agreement in its current form. According to the report, the deal imposes unilateral obligations on Ukraine without any commitments from the U.S., not even in terms of military or financial support against the Russian invasion. Essentially, Trump wants Ukraine’s minerals but is unwilling to commit to supporting the country’s defense against Russia.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Putin may be willing to halt technological and military cooperation with China in exchange for control over Ukraine. As an additional bargaining chip, he would offer Trump easier access to Ukrainian minerals. If true, this deal could explain Trump’s aggressive stance toward Zelensky.
According to Reuters, Trump and Elon Musk threatened to cut off Starlink service over Ukraine if Zelensky did not sign the minerals agreement granting the U.S. 50% of all Ukrainian minerals. Zelensky refused to sign the deal because it offers no security guarantees—in other words, Trump wants half of Ukraine’s minerals but does not commit to continuing the country’s defense against the Russian invasion.

Earlier today, Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley was fired by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass over the handling of the Los Angeles fires that raged in the Palisades, Eaton, and other areas in the past few months. Back when the fires were still raging, rumors spread that Bass had fired Crowley in the midst of the ongoing turmoil. Whether or not these rumors were true, the mayor’s office quickly refuted these rumors. This came after Crowley criticized the budget cuts that, among other factors, played a huge role in the department’s ability to combat the widespread fires earlier this year.

Jordan Bardella, from Marine Le Pen’s French party—often labeled as “far-right”—was in Washington as a special guest at CPAC, the annual conservative conference. However, he withdrew from speaking at the event after claiming that Steve Bannon, Trump’s key advisor, made a Nazi salute.
At the end of his speech, Bannon said, “fight, fight, fight” and then extended his arm with an open hand. According to Bannon, it was simply a wave, but Bardella and other right-wing politicians and guests at CPAC considered the gesture “excessively similar to a Nazi salute.” https://video.nostr.build/b135edcf714b78dc5815de858ea4260f9f944836b6b371ec3dd98e9c13742824.mp4
