U.S. Republican Representatives Cory Mills and Marlin Stutzman arrived yesterday in the Syrian capital of Damascus on an unofficial trip provided by the Syrian-American non-profit organization, the Syrian American Alliance for Peace and Development (SAAPP). Earlier today, both Representatives met with Ignatius Aphrem ll, Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church, before touring several parts of Damascus damaged during the civil war and eventually meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa. This marks the first visit by U.S. Legislators since the fall of the Assad Regime in December.

Today’s second round of nuclear talks between the United States and Iran have now begun at the Omani Embassy in Rome.

Both U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested Friday, that if progress wasn’t seen soon on peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, then the United Stated would abandon any further negotiations. While speaking to reporters yesterday at the White House, President Trump stated, “Quickly, we want to get it done. Now if for some reason one of the two parties makes it very difficult, we're just going to say, 'you're foolish, you're fools, you're horrible people, and we're going to just take a pass. But hopefully we won't have to do that.” While Secretary Rubio stated from Paris, “We're not going to continue with this endeavour for weeks and months on end. So we need to determine very quickly now, and I'm talking about a matter of days, whether or not this is doable in the next few weeks - If it's not possible, if we're so far apart that this is not going to happen, then I think the president is probably at a point where he's going to say, 'well, we're done'.”

In a rare late-night decision, the U.S. Supreme Court tonight by a vote of 7-2 has ordered the Trump Administration to halt the deportation of any further foreign nationals under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. This follows a rush earlier today by the lawyers of several Venezuelan illegal immigrants to the Supreme Court, seeking an emergency order to prevent what was believed to be another round of imminent deportations to the notorious CECOT maximum-security mega-prison in El Salvador.

Despite the reduction, the Pentagon emphasized that the mission to defeat ISIS (D-ISIS) will continue uninterrupted. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) remains committed to supporting coalition operations aimed at degrading and eliminating ISIS elements in the region. The Lebanese Armed Forces have confiscated a cache of missiles, explosives, and other weapons on the outskirts of Aiha Marj al-Tut in the Bekaa Valley. In a separate operation, eight individuals were arrested in Kfar Zabad for allegedly smuggling arms across the border from Syria.

Guyana has stated that it will not hold talks with Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro regarding the sovereignty of the Essequibo region. Maduro unilaterally annexed the area and even created a Venezuelan state to govern it — an action that has not been recognized by any other nation. He has repeatedly threatened to invade Guyana and seize the region by force, but recently, the Trump administration declared that if such an invasion occurs, the United States will intervene directly.
