When were they truly conservative in America? When only land owners could vote? Only whites? When you could own slaves? When we slaughtered most of the natives and put the remainder on reservations, scraps of their homeland we took? When we bombed striking workers instead of giving unions rights? Do not call me intentionally dishonest just because you disagree with my view. While you call me a liar, I see you as one who has been misled by their propaganda. You see conservativism as a real ideology that real people believe in and strive to abide by. I see it as a myth intentionally put forth to deceive people into supporting their real goals. Even conservatives that devoutly espouse the ideals and consider themselves true followers of the ideals inevitably betray the espoused ideals to support the true goal: establishing and/or maintaining an aristocracy.

You're debating who genuinely embodies the publicly espoused ideals, and I'm claiming that nobody genuinely does. My stance, unless you want to provide a reasoned argument otherwise, is that this line of thought must lead to one of two conclusions. Either there are no true conservatives, or the true beliefs of conservatives are different from that which you think they believe. Both are valid conclusions, I suppose, though I obviously think the latter.

My whole point, though, is that they ARE conservatives. You're confusing the professed ideals of conservativism with the true beliefs of conservatives. There are a few among the public that believe in the professed ideals of conservativism in America and practically none in leadership. Conservativism as they claim it to be is practically nonexistent and unpracticed. The lying and reinforcement of hierarchy IS the true core of conservativism. From that perspective, Fox is as conservative as it gets.

They call themselves conservatives because it's the PR cover for the true ideology. They claim they want to preserve institutions, but that doesn't include regulatory agencies or benefits for the poor. They claim they want to conserve freedom, but as soon as you do something they like, they have NO problem banning it federally, especially if it'd cost the elites. They sure as shit aren't conserving language, a key component of our culture, when they bastardize every word or phrase that might hurt them, like socialism or communism or racist. The only true tenet of conservativism is that society should be hierarchical with a small class of elites at the top. Everything else is just whatever will fool the public into allowing an aristocracy.

I don't think they're mutually exclusive. Radicals are radicals because of their intense belief in an ideology, so we can't entirely decouple them from that ideology just because they take it too far in the eyes of some.

The only thing conservatives actually want to conserve, regardless of where they are in the world, is a wealthy elite class. In modern times, the elite class is always somewhat regressive, longing for the days of autocrats and aristocracies, but if the elite class loses too much wealth or power, they push regression that much harder. Any aspiring or established elites feed the masses whatever lies and policies they need to to convince the populace to allow an aristocracy, and the people allow it usually because the aristocracy allows the hierarchy to include a third class or more below enough of the people. So conservatives are inherently regressive anywhere that doesn't already freely canonize an aristocracy.
