What mundane thing did you say to get banned from reddit?

submitted by https://lemmy.ca/u/imvii

I’ve been reading a lot of comments lately about people getting banned for really mundane things. Some as much as upvoting a comment.

My 11 year old reddit account got banned. I still don’t know exactly what I said but I believe it was for talking about the US invading Canada and how we Canadians would fight back.

I think the funniest thing was getting banned from r/politics for posting two lines from the lyrics of Kidnap the Sandy Claws - a song from a kids movie Nightmare Before Christmas. A KIDS MOVIE!

“Kidnap the Sandy Claws, throw him in a box. Bury him for ninety years, then see if he talks”

I don’t even remember the context of posting it, but it was about Santa Claus. You know, a fictional character.

Pathetic.

something similar to r/buycanadian, but for businesses who don't support/don't donate to trump

submitted by https://50501.chat/u/FiftyFiftyOne

r/buycanadian has managed to inspire the creation of other subreddits (I saw one for Europe too). I was wondering if anyone has made one for the us, but specifically something like “buyblue” (not something like buyAmerican, because I think that would spread the wrong message). If one exists, can you post it in here? I think we (I’m referring to myself and other Americans), should be following the Canadians by example a lot more. Idk, I just think having a subreddit specifically focused on it would make it a lot easier for people to boycott Trump supporting businesses, since everything would be all in one place. Also it would be a good way to promote businesses who share our ideals, especially smaller businesses. 💕

This is a repost of my old thread (I deleted and changed the title, thanks to a suggestion 💕)

EDIT: r/progressivedirectory, please give them your support, and help them grow!!!

Reminder for anywhere

submitted by https://50501.chat/u/FiftyFiftyOne

Regular reminder that when the time comes, they will be the ones arresting everyone for being queer, trans, disabled, a scientist, for just speaking out, etc.

They’re not here to keep you safe, they exist to protect property and power.

Cops are not and will never be safe. They shouldn’t be welcomed or trusted. Ever. Even the gay ones. Even your cousin. Even a woman cop.

Pinterest changes user terms so it can train AI on user data and photos, regardless of when they were posted

submitted by https://feddit.uk/u/Emperor

Pinterest has updated its privacy policy to reflect its use of platform user data and images to train AI tools.

A new clause, published this week on the company’s website, outlines that Pinterest will use its patrons’ “information to train, develop and improve our technology such as our machine learning models, regardless of when Pins were posted.” In other words, it seems that any piece of content, published at any point in the social media site’s long history — it’s been around since 2010 — is subject to being fed into an AI model.

In the update, Pinterest claims its goal in training AI is to “improve the products and services of our family of companies and offer new features.” Pinterest has promoted tools like a feature that lets users search by body type and its AI-powered ad suite, which according to Pinterest’s most recent earnings report has boosted ad spending on the platform. The company is also building a text-to-image “foundational” AI model, dubbed Pinterest Canvas, which it says is designed for “enhancing existing images and products on the platform.”

The platform has stressed that there is an opt-out button for the AI training, and says it doesn’t train its models on data from minor users.

Soon after we reached out to Pinterest with questions about the update, we were contacted by a spokesperson who insisted that the update wasn’t newsworthy because the update simply codifies things Pinterest was already doing. Later, the company provided us with an emailed statement.

“Nothing has changed about our use of user data to train Pinterest Canvas, our GenAI model,” read the statement. “Users can easily opt out of this use of their data by adjusting their profile settings.”

Pinterest was already training its AI tools with user data, as the company touches on in this Medium post about Canvas, but the practice is now codified in the platform’s terms of service.

Demo of European Mastodon hosting

submitted by https://feddit.dk/u/wilian

Hello everyone,

My friends and I are developing a fediverse hosting service as part of a worker owned democratic company. We’re committed to building on European infrastructure and, wherever possible, using green service providers for server hosting, S3 storage, and more. We are based in Denmark.

We’re currently seeking users for our alpha/demo phase who would like to host their own Mastodon instance for free. All you need to provide is your own domain.

As this is an alpha release, please note the service comes “as is” with potential downtime, bugs, lacks and defects. Ideally, we’re looking for users interested in building an active community on their instance, which helps us properly test our system.

We’ve implemented robust backup solutions, so at worst, instances can be restored from backups. You’ll always have the freedom to export your data when our demo phase concludes if you choose not to continue with our paid service.

If you’re interested or have questions about the project, please contact me here or via email at contact@wilian.me.

Best regards, W

I'm 5'7" with size 15 feet. Shoe shopping is a nightmare.

submitted by https://lemmings.world/u/Jealousdonkey

So, I’m a pretty average-height guy—5’7”. Not tall, not short, just… there. My feet, however, did not get the memo. They are gigantic. Size 15. Which means I leave footprints that suggest someone much larger (or possibly Bigfoot) passed through, got spooked, and took off running.

People always comment. First, the double-take. Then: “Whoa. Those are… big.” And finally, the classic: “How do you even find shoes?”

Badly. That’s how.

Shoe shopping for me is like searching for an ancient artifact. Store clerks disappear into the back, only to return shaking their heads, as if I’d asked for a unicorn saddle. “We might have one pair in the back…” And what they bring out is always tragic—some orthopedic dad sneaker the size of a small canoe, usually in a shade best described as “beige disappointment.”

For a while, I tried to hide it. I slouched. I crammed my toes into size 13s like a Victorian woman chasing a terrible beauty standard. I even considered custom shoes—until I saw the price and briefly thought maybe barefoot life isn’t so bad.

But now? I’ve embraced it. I don’t tip over easily. I get extra legroom on buses just by existing. And when people ask about my shoe size, I just smile and say, “Great for swimming.”

I hate pinterest with a passion without anywhere else to go..

submitted by https://lemmy.world/u/mobsenpai

Any way to semi achieve the image search like pinterest without using it? I’ve tried using google, technically it should give the same or better results but how the hell pinterest gives better search results. Also pinterest removes the context behind the image and is a privacy nightmare. I want to move away from it.
