Betting the house on these #AI services today is akin to proposing marriage on a first date. You haven't really seen enough yet to know what this relationship is going to look like longterm and there's a lot at stake.
One thing #AI has done for #SysAdmins is that it's started to normalize more spend trends towards CapX (servers, switches, etc) over OpX (AWS, Azure, software subscriptions, etc) so server environments are finally getting refreshed in places that have been overdue for them.

Not that I ever thought it shouldn't exist. It's never just never appealed to me.
Regardless of your views on #AI, I think this is a worthwhile experience because it gives a sense of the comparative compute cost of a query that isn't felt the same way when you type it into a website or use an API service.
So far my local #AI from scratch adventures have mostly resulted in making whatever room I'm in hotter on an already hot day. 🥵
Trying to understand #AI better and trying to do it from the ground up and my goodness, so much of it is poorly documented with various compatibility problems between toolsets and hardware and you definitely need some beefy hardware to do generative stuff. It's no wonder why most orgs will "just use OpenAI".
That doesn't mean there isn't an opportunity to build something better and more efficient on extant #opensource platforms, but my goodness, it's a rough wild west out there right now.
