Imagine Nostr in 120 years…

I was recently told a story by a friend, which this morning is resonating very strongly, and is helping me see the future.

This friend could remember their father taking them to a hilltop, studying the land, and pointing out the 120-year-old trees that had been planted as a wind block for the acreage. The point of the story was as the eldest son, it was their job to make long-term decisions. Someone had planted those trees in the knowledge they would never benefit from them personally.

What if a Nostr account is the equivalent of planting a tree?

If we assume that Nostr will exist 100 years from now, all of the value that a Nostr npub/nsec creates compounds for future generations. As we know you could inherit a Twitter profile, but is that really going to be around 100 years from now? This is why we love Nostr. A protocol. A technology. An open space for all.

As an idea, it needs some thought and fleshing out. The concept of digital property rights in connection with communication is very profound. We don’t know what’s coming. But we can make bets based on rational guessing. My bet is that Nostr is the cornerstone of communications in the future.

Why not plant some digital trees?
