Concept: graffiti that when treated for removal creates a new image or message that is a comment on the removal.

or graffiti that is subtle... until you attempt to remove it.

I know Americans can be uniquely annoying but I kind of think ALL people do this. It's like the defining trait of people in a way.

Oh and you can only go in a straight line when pedaling backwards since steering from the back is kind of impossible. It's a trick move.

Yeah, those are all kinds of bikes, but none of that describes a fixie. I'm being a little silly on this post, but the bit about going backwards is just how my bike works.

Can anyone explain this "change your icon to clippy" thing? What is going on?

LLMs are electric glazing machines. They are like those department store mirrors that make you look skinny. They flatter endlessly, never object, even when the user is very neural they produce statements that are positive value judgements on the content and ideas of the user.

And some people just... believe it. And why not?

Write a bad poem and ask an LLM to analyze it, it will find meaning in it, make you feel like Rita Dove.

I guess don't buy American Eagle if you can avoid it. But, really you shouldn't buy American Eagle because they sell the same poorly constructed clothing found at many chains.

If you want to look good in jeans I recommend made to measure. A perfect fit will make you look amazing and almost no one has clothing that fits unless they can sew. If you can't sew, consider having a thrift piece altered by a tailor. This can be done for less that retail sometimes. That's how you get "good jeans"

I'm not linking the new ad since people linking it to discuss it is part of why it's "successful" and I hate this trend for multiple reasons.

All you need to know is it's a lot like the old one but Sydney Sweeney is blonde and mentions she has blue eyes. Sydney Sweeney is not underage, but she's very youthful.

I have no idea if she personally has thoughts on any of this. I'm just interested in how "politics" can seep into advertising.

And what the cultural mirror is showing us.

Why in the olden days were what we'd now call a meme called "macros" what was that about exactly?

I remember this term but not why ...

I like ancient Egyptian lore and culture, but if a pharaoh is ever depicted in the "smiting the enemies" post I can't help but assume he was a real jerk I wouldn't have liked at all.

IDK maybe I'd feel different if the sea people and the desert fold kept stealing my cow... but even then. Ugh. So gauche.

Anyone else notice an uptick in items being shipped to the US getting mutilated with a razor by customs? (never had this happen before and now it's happened twice in a single month) First it was my custom spirograph from Poland. (Box was destroyed with a razor.) Then this very nice hand bound leather journal from Brazil.

The boxes in both cases could have been opened and resealed without taking a razor blade to them damaging the item. I'm pretty upset to see this lovely book cut up like this.

Here is a Roman D20 carved from crystal in the 3rd century AD. These were used, historians suspect for telling fortunes. However, no one can *prove* they weren't used for some kind role playing game. Which is what getting a fortune told with a die is kind of like anyways if you ask me.

"roll for initiative"

Unrelated... what is with the Bible and the number 40?

40 years of this, 40 days and nights of that. When things happen for a long time it's 40 units of time.

hmmm

Social media can be a force for good the fact that so many people see it as the opposite says more about the forces that dominate β€œthe market” and the mistake we make allowing human social networks to be monetized at all.

"maybe they gave in and made that change because it's not that important, its very silly, why fight over silly things"

"but it's a bad sign? people will just give in, go along with nonsense."

"would you quit YOUR job over it?"

"Over the Gulf of Mexico? I don't know. It's not like erasing Black History month and Pride month."

"they did that too."

"It's not like tagging people as citizens and non-citizens."

"that was already happening."

"I think I may get rid of my phone."

If you ever go shopping for a little treat for yourself to cheer yourself up have you considered getting an artist to draw something you love for you instead of buying a gadget or a cute hat?

(nothing wrong with gadgets or cute hats, but have art forever, and looking back on the drawings is amazing)

Find an online artist with a style you like who says they take commissions. Be clear about what you want, but also give them room to do it their own way (that's the whole value.)

So worth it.

There isn't any program spying on what look at longer trying to keep you on here scrolling for as long as possible.

There have been a lot of new people. You could be missing fun posts and looking at boring ones.

Do any of you have an ambient music making app on your phone that you enjoy? I'm thinking something like a simple synthesizer simulator that lets you make ethereal soundscapes to relax to or to save to use as background music?

I have a vague memory of an app like this years ago...
