GrapheneOS as a project entirely doesn't make recommendations, but Molly is one app that absolutely would be. Universally recommended and has little to no significant shortcomings when replacing Signal. One of the best.
As a project, GrapheneOS continues to grow with exceptionally loyal users, and it is easy to understand.
We are not some hobby or experimental OS. We are a work of (almost) 10 years of mobile and Android security research, with paid developers, members from many branches of computer and security expertise and volunteer moderators. Everything GrapheneOS has and will implement is added to target the current threat landscape, and is designed to combat real threats. Our security developments aren't to combat irrelevant, baseless 'what-if' scenarios or create easily attacked obscurity tactics and security theater features. We are not scammers who rely on telling you that you'll be "bulletproof" or "untraceable" unlike what came before GrapheneOS.
We are not some average AOSP distribution simply taking the Android base, piling other apps or flawed, insecure additions and treating them as our features. This is not innovation. GrapheneOS changes the AOSP base from all levels, hardening the most exploited components or replacing them with extra secure alternatives that we maintain or have even developed from the ground up. Projects like Hardened Malloc, Vanadium, Camera app and PDF viewer are some users will reap the benefits of in their day to day lives. Other OS's taking such work shows how valuable this work has been.
GrapheneOS is one of the only open-source projects to trailblaze mobile security, from implementing a lock screen bypass fix before Google, reporting numerous security vulnerabilities including ones used by companies attempting to attack us, and adding enhancements upstream to numerous open source projects. GrapheneOS is the first and still the only platform to have ARM hardware Memory Tagging Extensions implemented in production with the Pixel 8 and also the only browser in production when counting Vanadium as well. If you look at the project's socials for this, you will see additions like these have been planned years beforehand.
The foresight the project has for what we should implement should tell you what the experience and skills of the team members are. GrapheneOS is here to stay, and the work done will be around to stay even longer. Even if you don't use the OS you have reaped benefits of the work. It's never too late to understand what you are missing out.

GM!
For the fellow shinobi on Nostr, there is now a PayNym in bio.
Mihari is a great free toolset for threat hunting or CTI to add to the SIEM/XDR. Supports several services.
Unsure what you mean? π€ I'm saying I've never used KYC services or anything privacy-invasive when involving Bitcoin.
I never said I do such things π
This post is specifically about the first time I've bought goods with them. I don't choose to correlate usage of cryptocurrencies to banks, nor can I (banks block transactions for it). All my funds are sourced from no-KYC or sent to me since the very beginning.
If I am doing something anonymously then... Who knows whats being done? πΆβπ«οΈ
I'll forward these suggestions, as a mod I am not in the position to develop apps. Glad to see you are enjoying GrapheneOS! β‘
For sure. The PDF Viewer has a lot of improvements when it comes to the UI. A lot of time has been focused on more critical responsibilities, such as producing a Duress PIN feature among other things.
Thanks! Thought it would have been a waste of editing work to put the GOS logo in front.
Story: My first experience with using Lightning was during a meetup. I left the meeting with some equipment and a RoninDojo themed seed phrase paper.
That day after, my bank account was locked for 24 hours because of a supposed fraud check. I have a really bad habit of this and it was the 5th time that year. Because of the living situation I had kept no cash.
I ended up using the sats I had left to buy my food that day and the next thanks to buying a voucher from Bitrefill. If you don't feel like you need it, then you just haven't had the moment when you will yet.
Consider running nostr:npub155m2k8ml8sqn8w4dhh689vdv0t2twa8dgvkpnzfggxf4wfughjsq2cdcvg, it gives you both an always online lightning node, as well as NIP-05 identifiers. (final@grapheneos.org)
You can even setup a prism, where 90% of the sats go to the foundation, and 10% go to you personally.
It wouldn't be universal to the project, they have considered these options before but held back on it. There's an explanation here:

This doesn't mean to say I'd be against running one just for me. MetropleX runs his own lightning address for example. Once I get a domain it will be in the first three things I consider starting up. Also strong doubts individual members would have their own wallets as @grapheneos.org but rather a single address for project donations as a whole. The developers are paid employees, community mods are volunteers.
The project is very interested in accepting lightning but we need it to be very secure, long-term and scale reliably.
My first? 52,000 sats. I then deposited 163,000 from onchain and used that for some real life stuff.
While the rest of the sats from the past week are still remaining to be sent to me, I've sent an equivalent donation of everyone's sats in fiat so everyone knows where the money goes.
Thank you so much for supporting #GrapheneOS!

Appreciate it anyways! I'll see how things progress.
Appears it replied to the wrong place. Trying again:
I've been a bit hesitant to contact them incase it's an error on my part. Stacker News have been nothing but perfectly reliable thus far, and I've never had issues beforehand. When I first got SN a while ago, I wasn't fully understanding on lightning.
Strongly agree on this. The PDF Viewer needs improvements on those fronts, it's just other bigger responsibilities and work on upcoming crucial features takes more of the time.
This is my personal account and I've been stacking sats prior to being a mod on GrapheneOS on places like SN. This doesn't link to any of their wallets and the project doesn't accept lightning due to security constraints at the moment. Any sats I make involving GrapheneOS support I send back to the project by myself because I imagine people would want that.
I do keep a small amount, but that only goes to sending sats back or to fund something that keeps my work going. Prior to GrapheneOS the sats I made were enough to get a domain name and I do want to create content in the future. It's definitely helped.
The best place for donations is always the GrapheneOS donate page, but I am aware some people will not use anything but Lightning. If I can't send BTC back then I send equivalents in something else. I will post such donations.
Yes, I also bought 250k more liquidity and have a fair amount to pay the fees. Unless there is something I am missing then unsure.
