In most texts there are multiple features that coalesce to communicate the author's point. In translation it is not always possible to clearly convey all of these features (homonyms & rhyme are simple examples); as long as the author's point is well established, not every feature needs to be explained in translation. For example, if I was translating an American diplomat's speech and he used the figurative expression "it's raining cats and dogs," I could not simply translate that word for word into Russian without completely miscommunicating that speaker's intent. I would have to simplify the thought, substitute a different figure of speech, or embark on an extended explanation of what the expression means to English speakers. In the case of John 3, if you feel some critical point of the author will be missed without handling the homonym, a parenthetical comment or footnote would probably be the least disruptive approach.

Now to the later we answere; that wee doe not deny, nay wee affirme and avow, that the very meanest translation of the Bible in English, set foorth by men of our profession (for wee have seene none of theirs of the whole Bible as yet) containeth the word of God, nay, is the word of God. Read through his first article re. John 3. Not a helpful take. Yes, v 8 is word play, but it is difficult if not impossible to convey this feature in many target languages without immensely conflating the text or entirely obscuring the original meaning - as, tragically, Mr Curmudgeon has done with his own translation.

Spent time with a bunch of good Bitcoiner friends. Most of them don't use nostr. All of them urged to explain why they don't without being asked to do so. An indication of a bad conscience, I guess that's good for nostr but it doesn't really matter. Anyway, what's their reason? They haven't seen nostr used for much more than "just social media".

Obviously, they're retarded and wrong and I love them. But that doesn't matter either. They don't know that the most exciting use cases of nostr are beyond a Twitter clone and it seems that that's what would make them reconsider it, but I don't believe them really. I think they don't care and made up a bunch of nonsense excuses because they feel the social pressure from their Bitcoiner peers.
