Done reading Herodotus' Histories.

The first six books are quite confusing, so many names, places and tribes.

The next two books are awesome and real page turners. They describe the war of Xerxes vs. the Greeks, especially the battle that is depicted in the movie 300 (King Leonidas and 300 Spartans vs 2.5 million Persians). It turns out the movie is quite close to what is described in this book. Now I like that movie even more :)

Just like with The Old Testament, my main takeaway from this book is how utterly savage humans have been ever since the beginning of times. We are living in the most awesome and peaceful times ever and I must wonder when the next big calamity will hit us - because one thing seems certain: murdering, pillaging, looting, raping, scheming, stealing and destroying simply seems to be what humans (men in particular) like to do.

I had a quick look at the docs, I'm not sure I understand what this is? Isn't this just another Nostr relay server? What's so special about this?

Today I visited my dad. He's 74, old school, and doesn't like that I work remotely for a company that pays with Bitcoin (he thinks I should get a real job). 😅

He had the TV news on in the background and there were multiple scenes of money printing flashing across the screen. I mentioned Bitcoin and he tells me my step mum buys Bitcoin. My eyes lit up (I was extremely surprised and didn't expect it at all). 🤩

She's Russian and apparently has been sending bitcoin to her family in Russia for a long time (her parents who must be at least in their 70s or 80s). She had only been using it as a way to send money - until now. I started talking to her about some of the reasons I like Bitcoin. I saw her eyes light up. I think she understood. Hopefully she is going to start stacking too. 🤞🧡

Anyway. I feel like that was an achievement. I could feel the tense energy of my dad as I'm telling his wife all about bitcoin. As much as he was trying to ignore what I was saying, I'm about 85% sure a lot of what I said made sense to him - he's pretty smart. Maybe, just maybe, he will also start looking into bitcoin. 🤞

It might be prudent to not publicly announce who does and does not buy bitcoin.

This is the kind of content we need to spread far and wide.

soyou're using both Amethyst and 0xchat? I have been testing 0xchat since yesterday, it seems you could use it as a client too. Are you only using it for encrypted DMs? Does this mean the DMs in amethyst, Primal etc aren't encrypted by default?

DMs are encrypted, but anyone can impersonate you using your npub and see who you sent DMs to (but don't see what you wrote, but still terrible).

Yesterday I realized that the best proof that we live in a simulation is that every bloody radio station in the world plays the same god damn songs day after day after day since 30 years. 🤔

Using both, prefer Start9. Just seems more solid and better privacy protections.

How is privacy protected better? This is probably the most important aspect to me.

Nostr has oddly freed me from the constant pressure of social media.

I no longer worry about algorithms punishing me for not posting regularly. On Nostr, quality and effort are genuinely appreciated, and value flows regardless of how often I post. It's liberating to focus on real life, knowing my work will still be valued when I share them.

Plus I now have the time and space to experiment with new tools and learn new topics! 🧑‍🏫

The fact that we can't get shadow banned here is liberating.

I strongly assume that I have been shadow banned on Twitter ever since the pandemic (didn't gain a single follower in four years, the same ten people interacting with my posts but no one else)...

Once you know that something like that can happen to you, and you have no way of seeing when it is happening, the entire user experience is forever spoilt, since you will constantly ask yourself if you might be shadow banned once again.

Zaps will go to whatever wallet is listed as your lightning address on your profile. Right now that appears to be your Alby wallet.

So I just received a zap from Moritz. Then I tried to use the "Send" function in my Alby dashboard. Tried to send 42 sats and it says "insufficient funds". I have 121 sats in my Alby wallet right now.

Does the wallet load fine on your Alby dashboard? Use Nostr Wallet Connect from there, rather than from your node.

Go to https://getalby.com/connections while logged into your Alby account and select "NWC Connections" and add a new connection for Damus. Paste that connection string to Damus and Zap away.

Yea I had done all that. Still doesn't work.

Here's a thing I don't understand... I use Primal and ai can zap there and receive, it seems, Primal is its own wallet as well.

Now when I also use Damus and connect via Alby to my own LN node... when someone zaps me, how does Nostr know where the sats should go? Into my Primal wallet or into my Alby wallet??

Thank you for your feedback. We will consider how to improve. Perhaps we can remove the red dot notification when the Zap notification setting is turned off?

Or, when I tap into the "XX Reactions" badge on the Discovery view and have seen the Zap reaction, then it should also be marked as seen in Settings/Zaps?

How do I connect Damus to my AlbyHub on my Umbrel (reachable via Tailscale).

When I select Damus on the AlbyHub apps store and get that QR code and copy the pairing secret and the paste that into Damus, I see a connected wallet but the address is wss://relay.getalby.com or something and zapping doesn't work.

And yes, governments can't ban Nostr, but they can ban individual relays and remove apps from app stores.

Governments are past that stage. They have understood that banning the tech is not possible.

They now just throw you in jail if you use that tech.
