Once again, a banger essay on the undeniable biological decline of the Western world:

Highly recommend watch.

Very cool little edutainment game.

I don't think these things even try to be solutions to any real problem.

Unless you are an elite and your problem is that the maintenance of the enslavement of your population is getting more and more difficult with that pesky little internet thingy constantly putting wrongthink into your people's heads...

It won't stay 3GB. It will ballon into a terrabyte if Nostr goes mainstream.

80 makes sense and works very well. Even on large screens we need it because during code reviews you can have the div side by side and during coding you can have 2-4 files open next to each other.

47 sounds insane.

80 works perfectly for phones in landscape mode. Nobody should be reviewing code on the go anyways. Allow your brain to calm down. Work at your desk, not at your phone.

Why would we want to blast what we are up to into the ether without any way of ever deleting it?

Nostr really is terrible as a social network. It just seems super duper dangerous.

Say anything nasty here, then your country suddenly turns into a authoritarian shithole, like the UK, Germany and France, and you get raided and thrown in jail for wrongthink.

Try to be anonymous or pseudonymous? Good look keeping that up for a year without ever accidentally posting something that doxxes your entire identity.

Finally got around to playing Undertale.

Incredible game: https://backloggd.com/u/mbrochh/review/3682149/

Hello dear Nostr people

I had been thinking about joining Nostr for a while, inspired by nostr:nprofile1qyxhwumn8ghj7cnjvghxjme0qyt8wumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgtcqyp78vh2q05af6h4pzl9chp5ev2zkq7rlczz2p3m2l2jyn0aazgwcgs0270c and nostr:nprofile1qy2hwumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgqtxwaehxw309anxjmr5v4ezumn0wd68ytnhd9hx2tmwwp6kyvtjw3k8zcmp8pervct409shwdtwx45rxmp4xseryerdx3ehy7f4v3axvet9xsmrjdnxw9jnsuekw9nh2ertwvmkg6n5veen7cnjdaskgcmpwd6r6arjw4jsqgq6lcx8fc7h0p8t4ya9u0a92jnwavqe9rgjwwdw3wjgxfuxsz8rd5mths8c (thanks Jor and HODL!). It took me a few weeks to research Nostr, and another few weeks to create a profile and download the Primal app to my phone.

Now, after a month on Nostr, I can say I use it more than my X profile. The general atmosphere here is SO much more positive and constructive compared to the insanity on other social media platforms. My sense is that Nostr attracts many grounded free thinkers and people with a positive outlook on the world (well, maybe positive about the world slowly being built with Bitcoin… patience my friends!).

My mission is to spread some beauty and invite contemplative reflections through my nature photography hobby. The positive responses and nice comments I have received have motivated me to pursue it even deeper.

TL;DR - I know, I know. Just want to say thank you to you all - you are my kind of people, and I think I have found my digital tribe here on Nostr.

Damn... the stuff that you have posted so far is incredible. Followed.

In about two weeks everyone got used to it and no one will talk about it any more, as usual with new Apple things...

Damnit. This does actually look extremely cool.

Problem is: The main reason to run MacOS nowadays is the insane inference speed for really large LLMs, thanks to the 96GB unified memory.

No other laptop (or even desktop) can beat that, as far as I know...

Come to Singapore. People still wear masks here regularly, especially women and the elderly.

Been out of the loop about music since my daughter was born last year. Finally have some time again to sit down and just listen to music in the evening, so I went hunting...

…and found this:

Very useful :)

I'm not an Amethyst user though. My Nostr npub doesn't seem to work. Why would Amethyst npubs be different from any other client's npub?

I don't even know what to enter to "Connect".

My mbrochh@mbrochh.io ID doesn't work and I have no idea what a bunker:// address is.

A letter to the OGs

For the early adopters who now sit on many Bitcoins but never really got involved: the truth is, you were never just supposed to be spectators. Looking back, we can see that waves of adoption came not only from number go up, but from people building, educating, experimenting, and putting their coins on the line to create real use cases.

Now the danger is clear: if Bitcoin is captured by paper markets, "walled gardens", and custodians, then the dream of self‑sovereign money simply dissolves into the same old system - except with orange branding. Sitting on coins, waiting for retirement will not defend against this capture. What will, is action.

Action in showing people how to self‑custody, not just telling them.

Action in building tools and wallets where sovereignty is the norm, not an afterthought.

Action in pushing back against the narrative that Bitcoin’s destiny is to be a Wall Street derivative zoo. It is only true if we let it be true.

Action in experimentation, even at the messy edges, so Bitcoin does not calcify into a dull savings asset to be milked by regulators and investment bankers.

We do not know if the time to act is exactly now. But it might well be. What we do know is that if the people who understand Bitcoin’s original power do not act, nobody else will.

Bitcoin needs its OGs! Not as passive holders. Not as rich ghosts from the past. But as active defenders of its principles and builders of its future. There are plenty of projects around self‑custody - my WalletScrutiny included - and early adopters have the resources to make a material difference in Bitcoin’s future today. And they can do that without showing their faces or writing code themselves.

When WalletScrutiny received 1.7 BTC out of the blue from an anonymous donor, I quit my day job and started focusing fully on WalletScrutiny. That 1.7 BTC was less than 0.00001% of all Bitcoins, yet it enabled me to dedicate my time 100% to self‑custody. Since then, Spiral has stepped in to finance us, but those who got rich from Bitcoin and understand what is at stake could support thousands of such projects without losing any meaningful share of their wealth.

Because if we do not fight for "free‑range Bitcoin", it is guaranteed that "walled‑garden Bitcoin" will win.

So: if you feel the disgust, if you see the capture, and if you cannot bear the idea of letting it rot undisputed, then take that feeling as the call to act.

Bitcoin is not over. But it does need you!

I showed around 200 people how to self custody and purchased Cryptosteels and Trezor's for a sizeable amount of people.

My job here is done.

I realized that the last time I sat down and really listened to a whole music album was Daft Punk’s Random Access Memory.

Since then, the music in my life was just endless similar-sounding slop that Spotify spoonfed me while I was working.

I felt starved for great music today, so I googled “best album of 2024” and went through a few listicles from various online music magazines. I was horrified how stupid most of it sounds, but then I found this:

Really enjoying this right now.

The hardest part of it will be fighting the state.

If I don't get permission to school her, we will have to move somewhere else.

If I do get permission, I still need to teach her some nonsense at a pace and time that will clash with my own schooling ideas just so she can beat certain official mandatory exams.

This is obviously a very wide field where we can't make any generalisations, but I still that your point sounds a bit like "but how do we serve the mainstream" (and I think: we shouldn't) whereas my point is more like "how do we just be creative and artistic" (but I agree that not all works must meet that criteria, there is a gray zone in between).

I'm pretty sure Franz Kafka or Kurt Vonnegut didn't give a flying fuck about some potential audience, but people will be talking about their work for centuries.

Tolkien probably also didn't think (or even plan) that his work would become pop culture.

The Bible? Absolutely horrible and impenetrable in every possible way - but somehow it found an audience.

I guess, if a work defies all norms and surprises us, an audience that nobody could have predicted will somehow materialize.

That doesn't change anything about the 21m limit. Quite astounding that you would even bring that up as an argument.

silent link is pointless, if you ever turn on that phone near your home. You must only activate it after you are a few kilometres away from home and turn it off when you are on the way back to home.

also, obviously never log in to accounts that are linked to your real identity, so that phone will be very limited in its usecases.
