A year ago nostr:nprofile1qqsreqnakmz97lnzy8aprxukq38trfqjz34p74n5ws58faajveqclscprpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezumnfva58gdewwdcxzcm9qy2hwumn8ghj7un9d3shjtnyv9kh2uewd9hj70hk39u proposed the idea to make a movie about bitcoin adoption in Bulgaria.
Over the next months we aligned our vision, started planning and launched a nostr:nprofile1qqstdhxam7rxw5586xjwscsdj24fqhp93kzsh7xvjg7nnhc7mlh9aecpzemhxw309ahx7um5wghxgetvda6x26eww34j7qghwaehxw309a4ksct5wf6juur4dp3ksmewd4jj70kf78k campaign. Over 100 bitcoiners, primarily from Bulgaria, supported the project. 🙏
Others offered us places to stay, showed us around and let me follow them around with a camera. The project was made possible because the community showed up and helped out.
In June, I traveled to Bulgaria with everything needed to make the film in one checked bag and a carry on. For the next month, I toured the country meeting the people building on bitcoin.
The trip went incredibly well. We worked hard and didn’t waste a single opportunity. Excluding day 17 when I got food poisoning-everything, and I mean everything went our way.
We finished the first phase and bulk of the production with 5TB of footage, including ~35 interviews. I returned home, started editing and in October returned a second time to film the BTC Balkans bitcoin conference.
It was awesome to see the Bulgarians one roof, connecting with the other Balkan communities.
I am now deep in the editing process and aiming to release the film in April 2026. It’s been a challenging and rewarding project and I am so glad I got to work with this crazy Bulgarian guy named Ivan to tell this story.

Today is one of my favorite days of the year because for next six months days get longer. Sunlight is back in a bull market.
Soap dish broke off the shower wall yesterday. As I was sanding the wall a bit to glue it back in I noticed moisture coming from behind the tiles….
Turns out there was black mold behind the tiles and the drywall was soaked halfway up. Fortunately the moisture didn’t make it any further.
An emergency bathroom remodel wasn’t how I was planning to start the week, but here we are.

Pretty wild thinking back to the decision to build on bitcoin. March 8th I made my first Nostr post, April 4th I was at the halving party in El Salvador…
Grateful for everyone who has supported my journey and it’s just getting started.
Since then I’ve been to more than a dozen bitcoin conferences, several circular economies and tons of meetups.

Daniel is a Bulgarian bitcoiner who is leading the charge building the circular economy and educating Bulgarians about bitcoin. With the imminent replacement of the Lev (the local currency) with the Euro it’s critical to get the message out and get as many people on the life boat as possible.

I may not be correct! But usually the contrails dissipate almost immediately. I’ve also heard that certain types of spray “prime” the sky for other mixtures that come later. Anyways glad we’re both looking up✌️

No but I get that question a lot! I should have, it was totally unplanned spur of the moment inspiration. But yeah 2 main reasons- the people and the story. Sofia, Bulgaria 2024 was my first bitcoin conference, I made some friends there and really enjoyed the trip. They are incredibly welcoming and made sure us foreigners had a good time and got to experience the country as much as possible. Search “Rila Monastery” if you want your mind blown, that was one place we visited. Secondly as a storyteller I’ve always been looking for the story that hasn’t been told that I believe can have tremendous impact. This is it. There’s so much to see do and learn in Bulgaria and there haven’t been any documentaries made about bitcoin adoption there. So yeah basically those two reasons.
Yeah basically Nostr is the protocol that “clients” aka apps are built on. I’ve never used a voice message client but it sounds like it’s out there.
