a quick bio because why not eh?

custom domain setup for my handle again ✅

pretty good actually!

Thank you! I guess.. to an extent, but it’ll bring down my average a lot (especially if the real thing ends up being a C).

not yet.

ah ok, wasn’t sure if it was available through one of those terminal emulators or not hah but I guess it wouldn’t have file access etc then

btw nostr:nprofile1qqsgydql3q4ka27d9wnlrmus4tvkrnc8ftc4h8h5fgyln54gl0a7dgspz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumt0wd68ytnsw43qz9nhwden5te0wfjkccte9ec8y6tdv9kzumn9wsfurw04 goose is much better than codex (OpenAI) - it’s extensible, and actually compatible with MCP? (idk if this ChatGPT thing is.)

is there any way to run it on iPadOS?

How does the “right to be forgotten” sort of thing work on #nostr? Anyone thought of that? In a good way and a bad way it seems like everything here is up forever — thousands of servers around the globe receiving your little posts, temperamental deletes, no way to delete your account (?) etc..

#asknostr

Oh yeah they’re doing a ton of releases atm! This week especially. Not sure if there’s another tomorrow but you can see at https://openai.com/live/

Codex seems cool, but not sure how I feel with it only working with their APIs. It’s their product, so unsurprising, but I suppose since it’s open source someone could clone it to make it compatible with something like OpenRouter.

But in the meantime, been super impressed with “codename goose “ by nostr:npub16l0ck0s5zened29dsaqtqm6z0t4fmk2mwtszw64fz7fppcnls8mss3yj9s

stressing out. been doing a lot of studying chem, but still getting like Bs or Cs and I have 2 weeks until the 1st paper (theory) :/

somehow physics is easier than it.. wtf?!

wish me luck

vibe coding rn with gpt 4o-mini high

ah interesting

no, i'm fairly sure they don't do complete blocks like that at the protocol level unless it's spam that's like a DDoS level (although not sure what counts as that)

yeah they def won't get too technical for them, if the Turkish gov find out it's still technically up, who knows what will happen lol

also, I wasn't a user of Twitter from the early days to ~2021 (it fascinates me, but let's just say twitter is older than me!) - but how did Twitter do this with 3rd party apps at the time? i never used them (since elon killed them since), but i assume Twitter could only shadowban specific users in the official app, since otherwise it's just API calls? unless a full account take down ofc

yeah i suppose, but there's other difficult parts of nostr that make it unfriendly for the users (the keys being one main thing.. most people probably don't even use a password manager for passwords, if they don't do that, they won't keep a private key lol)

oh yeah that's the thing. some people have actually made small ones on their own RPis! but none that'll be at scale (although if you can host a small one for you and close friends, maybe that'll be the way to go? there'd have to be a ton of them though.)

and yeah that's the thing, bluesky *technically* have control over that. i'm not sure they ban them from the PDS though. i think that DID profile is just banned from accessing the bluesky service, but they can still use other atproto apps -- theoretically someone could make a "free speech bluesky" which caches all bluesky posts in a relay + whatever lexicon this new theoretical site would use, but again you're then relying on that person to not take gov censorship requests in

moderation/t&s is a really difficult thing on socials. you OBVIOUSLY don't want the AWFUL side of things like csam, irl violence, abuse, etc.. but then there's random censroship requests like this one.. and there seems to be no good way to do this (nostr won't be great for the bad things i just mentioned before..)

i mean i'd hope that it'd be easier to explore, but it's a difficult topic. iirc some bluesky engineers have said they don't want to have a relay selector in app (like how nostr does it) since that's just friction for the user.

it's a hard one, you're either making it less prone to random account takedown requests, or just making the UX so annoying that you won't get users on the site itself due to the complexity -- that's what separates atproto/bluesky and nostr imo

yeah it is!

on the official Bluesky app, they collect your country location data (just from IP, not GPS or anything) and then use that to apply certain labels for moderation, but any other app could choose to bypass this.

interesting ://

3rd party clients would be able to get around this easily, but how did this work in twitter days? (I only joined Twitter in 2022, shortly after 3p clients were killed by Elon)

right now anyone can setup a Bluesky AppView or Relay, and connect it to their own apps which would bypass all of this, it's just that no other major players have so pretty much 99% of users will rely on Bluesky's ones

def an issue though, but it should sprout some other people spinning up their own atproto infra i hope 🤞

yeah, since their moderation is just a labeller that you can seemingly opt out of (although the official app collects your location to know what labels to apply) it's def interesting

anyone could fork the app, or build their own client which juts doesn't listen to this.. but then i wonder if they're gonna lead to removing posts/accounts from their AppView level? i think they have that type of control.

i hope they really do get cheaper AppViews/Relays working so people can actually host them themselves, becoming more and more important

hmm at least if OpenAI had a social network, there would be accessible APIs!! :P

been experimenting with Emacs for a few days on Mac/Linux for notes, it’s pretty cool :) kinda like Obsidian… I like the keyboard shortcuts haha

just gotta make sure I’m def backing these up, because they’ll just be gone otherwise :( https://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/

studying lord of the flies again now, and wow jack is like trump at the end lmao
