The lightning network would be useless if it was truly decentralized. Your LND node might be able to open channels with other LND nodes but you and your wealth are still at the will of LND. Take a few months ago as an example. Everyone was forced to update their node to have the privilege to close channels
Only time will tell. I feel like I few I paid for might be duds in the long run but still fun to try. I am waiting for the real money to flow in the space. Going to be a lot of grifting but there will be some gems in the chaos
