Zelensky Is 'Going To Have To Make A Deal' With Russia, Trump Urges

President Trump told reporters in passing on the White House lawn Tuesday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky "is going to have to make a deal" with Russia to end the the long-running war.

Last month's historic Alaska Trump-Putin summit failed to produce or lead to anything substantial, other than perhaps an improvement of bilateral relations. Trump acknowledged in the fresh remarks that the Ukrainian and Russian leaders "hate each other," and said "it looks like I have to sit in the room with them, because they can't sit in a room together."

?itok=aH8zLa_y

"There's great hatred there. But no, that meeting accomplished a lot," he said in reference to the Alaska summit.

And yet the reality remains that Putin and Zelensky are at this point no closer to actually being in the same room together, much less the same venue, even if other mediators like Trump are there.

Trump also in his comments took the opportunity to apply more pressure on the European Union, saying it must stop all purchases of Russian oil "immediately".

"They've got to stop immediately, not fair to us. They're purchasing Russian oil, and we have to do this," he said.

Ukraine's Zelensky without doubt wants the next round of EU sanctions to hit Moscow, but has also appeared supportive of Trump calling out Europe's oil and other energy imports.

"I'm sure the US can apply enough sanctions in order to hurt the Russian economy, plus Donald Trump has enough force to make Putin afraid of him," Zelensky said.

Still, Kiev wants to see more and more robust sanctions leveled from Washington's direction. "Europe has already introduced 18 sanctions packages against Russia. And all that's lacking now is a strong sanctions package from the US," Zelensky has said.

As for Trump admitting that Zelensky must make a deal, the big question remains whether Trump is willing to use the significant leverage the United States has over the Ukrainian leader.

So far Trump has not been willing. He could simply cut off the weapons and money flows to the Zelensky government if he wanted to - but he's not even threatening to at this point. Such actions would result in huge pushback from Trump's own Republicans. So for now, his urging Zelensky to the peace table appears to just be empty words, with no threat of repercussions. Meanwhile:

Currently, there are reports indicating that Trump and Zelensky might meet again next week. At this point, there's no sign of a Putin-Zelensky meeting being anywhere on the horizon.

Mystery Trader Makes Record Bet On 50bps Rate Cut Tomorrow

Mystery Trader Makes Record Bet On 50bps Rate Cut Tomorrow

With a 25bps rate-cut fully priced in tomorrow, a mystery trader made a massive bet yesterday to hedge against the possibility of a much larger 50bps cut - very much against the consensus in the market.

After last week's jobless claims and CPI/PPI malarkey, there has been some rotation in the market relating to The Fed's rate-cut trajectory (with 2025 expectations declining and 2026 expectations increasing)...

?itok=KJnTO46i

The 2025 shift has seen September odds of a 50bps cut tumbled (from almost 20% to only around 4% now) while October's odds of a 25bps cut are also falling...

?itok=l5zwTJdH

So, despite that hawkish shift, Bloomberg's Ed Bolingbroke reported an eventful morning session in the US yesterday for flows in the front-end of the curve included the largest ever block trade in fed funds futures.

The trade took place in the October fed funds, for an amount of 84,000 contracts which is equivalent to $3.5 million per basis point in risk.

?itok=fHbliL-A

As Bolingboke notes, the price and timing of the trade was consistent with a buyer, potentially indicating a hedge against a half-point rate cut at Wednesday’s policy meeting, given a quarter-point cut is now fully baked into the swaps market.

The CME confirmed this was the largest ever block trade in Fed Funds Futures...

The largest ever Fed Funds futures block trade was executed this morning (84,000 contracts, equivalent to $3.5m per basis point), underscoring the significant risk transfer enabled by CME Group's deeply liquid markets. https://t.co/eV3EsnUMKe

— CME Group Interest Rates (@Interest_Rates) https://twitter.com/Interest_Rates/status/1967690926123303226?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Along with the massive fed funds futures flow, and perhaps reflecting the shift seen in the first chart above, there was also a huge SOFR spread trade via a September 2026/March 2027 steepener.

?itok=DiTCG6zm

This position may reflect a wager on more front-loaded and deeper rate cuts vs. current policy pricing.

As we noted earlier, and bearing in mind these new large positions, Goldman believes the main near-term risk to equity markets would be an unwind of Fed cutting expectations, particularly for some of the lower quality pockets of the market that have benefited from a more ‘goldilocks’ backdrop.

Biden FBI Targeted Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA

Biden FBI Targeted Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA

https://pjmedia.com/matt-margolis/2025/09/16/bidens-fbi-targeted-charlie-kirks-turning-point-usa-n4943765

,

FBI Director Kash Patel faces questions during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday morning, during which Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) revealed that whistleblower revelations showed that Joe Biden’s FBI targeted not just Donald Trump, but a wide swath of Republican organizations — including Charlie Kirk’s Turning Point USA.

?itok=UjZXVVBf

Grassley reminded Patel of the FBI’s recent history of political weaponization, pointing directly to an operation known as “Arctic Frost.”

“At your nomination hearing, I made public records that whistleblowers provide me about Arctic Frost,” Grassley said. “Arctic Frost was the FBI case opened and approved by anti-Trump FBI Agent Thibeau. Arctic Frost then became Jack Smith’s elector case against then-citizen Trump and now-President Trump.”

According to Grassley, newly obtained records show that the Arctic Frost probe was far broader than previously known. “The case was expanded to Republican organizations,” Grassley explained. “Some examples of the group that Wray and FBI sought to place under political investigation included the Republican National Committee, Republican Attorney General’s Association, and various Trump political groups.”

The scope was staggering. “In total, 92 Republican targets, including Republican groups and Republican-linked individuals, were placed under investigative scope of Arctic Frost,” Grassley said. “On that political list was one of Charlie Kirk’s groups, Turning Point USA.”

Grassley argued that the evidence proves that Arctic Frost was more than just an anti-Trump operation. It was actually about crippling the Republican political infrastructure.

“In other words, Arctic Frost wasn’t just a case to politically investigate Trump,” Grassley declared. “It was the vehicle by which partisan FBI agents and Department of Justice prosecutors could achieve their partisan ends and improperly investigate the entire Republican political apparatus.”

“So today, Sen. Johnson and I are making these records public for the entire country to see, and I hope a lot of people are interested in seeing what government can do when various agencies have a political agenda,” Grassley said.

Grassley also connected the dots to the politically charged prosecution of former Trump adviser Peter Navarro. “My investigative work has also exposed the political way in which Peter Navarro was investigated and prosecuted,” he said, noting one FBI agent’s reaction to Navarro’s charges: “When FBI Agent Thibeau found out that Biden’s DOJ would prosecute Navarro, he said, ‘Wow, great.’ That’s a quote-unquote.”

🚨BREAKING: Senator Chuck Grassley just announced that a FBI whistleblower revealed to him an FBI project called "Artic Frost" that targeted groups like Charlie Kirks TPUSA!

This is a BOMBSHELL!

He says that they are releasing those documents TODAY!

The exposed weaponization of the FBI isn’t just a matter for Washington insiders; it’s a direct assault on the very foundation of our republic. Americans must demand full transparency and accountability before our institutions become irreparably politicized.

This scandal isn’t some partisan gripe; it’s a glaring threat to the democratic process that affects every voter and every election ahead. And let’s not forget, Biden himself set the tone by labeling Trump supporters as enemies of the state. That rhetoric, coupled with a weaponized FBI, created the toxic political climate that ultimately led to Kirk's assassination.

If this scandal enrages you, join the club. PJ Media calls out the FBI’s corruption while legacy outlets will no doubt look away. Help us keep exposing what the Left wants hidden—https://pjmedia.com/subscribe?tpcc=60saleMM091625_3&promo_code=FIGHT

EU Delays New Sanctions On Russia After Trump's Oil Warning

EU Delays New Sanctions On Russia After Trump's Oil Warning

The European Union has put its next round of sanctions against Russia on hold, with no new timeline for when the measures will move forward, according to a report by Politico citing EU officials.

Politico correspondent Sarah Wheaton https://www.politico.eu/newsletter/brussels-playbook/the-eus-russian-gas-ban-pipe-dream/

Tuesday, "The next sanctions package against Russia — the 19th since Moscow began its war against Ukraine — is no longer expected to be presented on Wednesday, an EU diplomat and a national official told my colleague Camille Gijs."

"It’s fallen off the Coreper II agenda as U.S. President Donald Trump and the EU’s own pressure build on Slovakia and Hungary to cut their reliance on Russian oil," the report adds.

?itok=mJ6dxdgo

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas had previously said the 19th sanctions package should be ready by the end of the month, which suggests that indeed the new Trump pressure is likely a major obstacle which explains the delay.

There's also been some behind the scenes wrangling over how far-reaching the punitive measures might be, especially on the question of visas for Russians.

Some EU member states are pushing for the new sanctions to include tougher, bloc-wide rules on visas for Russian citizens. As it stands, each country sets differing policies related to tourist visas, with several EU members blocking all Russian tourist visas outright - though countries like Spain and Slovakia recently reopened their visa centers in Moscow.

Some anti-Putin activists have admitted that a blanket EU ban would only harm everyday people, and the Kremlin would see itself justified in alleging 'Russophobic' policies out of Brussels.

Against the backdrop of the internal EU policy debate, over the weekend President Trump urged NATO members to stop buying Russian oil and pushed the idea of imposing steep tariffs, possibly up to 100%, on Chinese goods in order to pressure Beijing from supporting Moscow.

Europe stumped by Trump demands to stop buying Russian oil before he moves on punishing Moscow.

EU has already banned most imports of Russian oil after the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine, slashing the share of oil it imports from Russia from 29% in early 2021 to 2% by mid-2025… https://t.co/7bMSfQejAF

— AFP News Agency (@AFP) https://twitter.com/AFP/status/1967855383801626993?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

But the reality remains that especially Turkey, Slovakia, and Hungary are heavily reliant on Russian energy, and aren't going to agree to drastic measures which harm their own populations and economies.

The newest proposes sanctions would take aim at Russia's payment and credit card networks, cryptocurrency exchanges, as well as impose additional restrictions on its oil trade. In total it would target about half a dozen Russian banks and energy companies.

Below: Trump's latest to reporters:

"Zelensky is gonna have to make a deal."

Trump once again slams Europe for buying Russian oil: "You know, they talk, but they're gonna have to stop buying oil from Russia."

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in a Meet the Press interview on Sunday said: "We are prepared to increase pressure on Russia, but we need our partners in Europe to follow."

Urging Europe to act more aggressively, he said, "We are talking about what the two, the EU and the U.S., do together. But we need our European partners to follow us."

NY Judge Tosses Terrorism Charges Against Luigi Mangione, Murder Count Stands; Democrats Cheer In Streets

NY Judge Tosses Terrorism Charges Against Luigi Mangione, Murder Count Stands; Democrats Cheer In Streets

A New York state judge just moments ago dismissed terrorism charges against https://www.zerohedge.com/political/person-interest-nyc-assassination-being-questioned-police-pa

in the state's case over the late 2024 killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, but kept second-degree murder charges in place.

Luigi Mangione has arrived for his New York State Court Hearing. https://t.co/xoOhziXAhb

— prosper (@prosperluigi) https://twitter.com/prosperluigi/status/1967943910782800224?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

New York Judge Gregory Carro ruled that although Mangione's actions were ideologically motivated, New York law requires proof of intent to intimidate or coerce a civilian population for terrorism charges, which prosecutors failed to present.

Carro ruled that prosecutors presented "legally sufficient evidence of all other counts, including Murder in the Second Degree." Mangione has pleaded not guilty to the rest of the charges.

This was the first time in five months that Mangione, a 27-year-old Ivy League graduate from Baltimore, Maryland, returned to a Manhattan courtroom.

?itok=EhPS4Ood

Mangione's "intentions were obvious from his acts, but his writings serve to make those intentions explicit," prosecutors wrote in a recent filing, adding that the writings "convey one clear message: that the murder of Brian Thompson was intended to bring about revolutionary change to the healthcare industry."

Law enforcement indicates the words "delay," "deny," and "depose" that were etched into the bullet casings, echoing a phrase commonly used to describe how major insurance companies avoid paying claims.

Mangione has remained in custody at a Brooklyn jail since his arrest, about five days after the December 4 killing of Thompson.

Mangione has developed a cult-like following within the Democratic Party, which conservative activists such as Charlie Kirk have long warned is a symptom of normalizing and spreading "assassination culture."

🚨 NOW: People are cheering and hugging in reaction to Luigi Mangione having his terrorism charges dropped. The murder count will stand.

"Free Luigi!"

They want him to be released, and view him as a hero. We have massive issues as a country. https://t.co/6OQlv8cEKo

— Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) https://twitter.com/EricLDaugh/status/1967947931849543769?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Kirk was assassinated last week by what appears to be a "radical left, Antifa-adjacent creep" who also etched revolutionary terminology into bullet casings, including the word "Fascists."

The radicalization timeline of Mangione should be scrutinized, including whether the https://www.zerohedge.com/political/elite-woke-maryland-private-school-asks-young-students-about-gender-and-if-they-had-oral

or the University of Pennsylvania played any role in shaping his leftist ideology.

A Circular Economy & The Four Archetypes Of Bitcoiners

A Circular Economy & The Four Archetypes Of Bitcoiners

https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/bitcoin-archetypes-circular-economy-rev

Trying to build a Bitcoin circular economy in Brazil and lobbying politicians led me to uncovering four archetypes of Bitcoiners: the coordinators, the market pragmatists, the monetary purists, and the Bitcoin minimalists. Here’s what I’ve learned...

?itok=MdhhPENS

A few years ago, I made an unlikely bet: to build a Bitcoin circular economy in the heart of a fishing village in Brazil’s Northeast. No venture capitalists, no “crypto,” no empty promises. Only nodes, satoshis, in‑person education and plenty of sidewalk conversations.

That is how Praia Bitcoin Jericoacoara was born: a radical experiment in financial sovereignty built with open source tools and feet in the sand.

In four years at https://x.com/bitcoinbeachbr

, we turned a beach town into a living Bitcoin classroom: We onboarded families, shopkeepers and street vendors; taught self‑custody in small groups; installed reliable Lightning routes and point‑of‑sale tools; ran social programs paid in sats; and hosted meetups that made Bitcoin part of daily life.

Living on the Bitcoin standard, I began to see what is really happening at the technological edge.

In August 2025, I published four short articles on X. Different in form and tone, they converged on the same question: What role should Bitcoin play, and what role should we play in building it? They came in fours:

a field report on our work with the Bitcoin Community Bank in Jericoacoara

a critique of https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/diving-deep-into-the-maximalist-mindset-understanding-bitcoins-unique-appeal

rigidity

a diplomatic letter inviting https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/bhutan-another-country-using-bitcoin-to-escape-poverty

’s prime minister to consider the satoshi as a unit of account, and

a public appeal to keep Bitcoin a peer‑to‑peer cash system.

What they share is the desire to align practice, theory, and a future‑facing vision.

In the first piece, I shared the challenges and lessons from a real experiment: building a Bitcoin‑based https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/circular-economies-bitcoin-bridge-peru

in Northeast Brazil. Inspired by Bitcoin Beach in El Salvador, we rooted the Jericoacoara project in education, inclusion and local infrastructure. We installed servers, onboarded merchants and neighbors, created social programs and sought institutional recognition as a Community Bitcoin Bank.

Building a Bitcoin Circular Economy in Jericoacoara

I’m deeply inspired by the progress of https://twitter.com/BitcoinEkasi?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

— Praia Bitcoin Brazil ⚡ (@BitcoinBeachBR) https://twitter.com/BitcoinBeachBR/status/1951666252511863148?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

We were https://livecoins.com.br/governo-do-ceara-nega-registro-de-banco-comunitario-do-bitcoin-por-enquanto/

by the local authorities. Even in the face of the state’s legal and political unpreparedness, we moved forward with conviction. We believe that when Bitcoin is rooted in place, it can be more than money; it can be a tool for community transformation. Yet authorities struggled to understand this, and they denied our request to register what would have been the first Bitcoin community bank.

In the second piece, I confronted an ideological tension within the community itself. Maximalist rhetoric, which defends Bitcoin as the only legitimate project and treats the rest of “crypto” as scams, had its historical role. It helped protect the integrity of the ecosystem, exposed frauds and accelerated market maturation. But does it still serve the goal of large‑scale adoption? Does it help communicate Bitcoin’s value to newcomers? I caught myself ignoring relevant technological solutions simply because they were outside the maximalist bubble.

After revisiting the discussion and reading every reply and quote, my conclusion was that other projects end up serving as funnels, sandboxes or distribution channels that drive people toward real Bitcoin adoption. Stablecoins, altcoins, memecoins, and centralized cryptocurrencies are moving toward Bitcoin, absorbing inflation and even helping to establish the prices of other commodities. Perhaps it is time for a new posture: not abandoning principles, but embracing a Bitcoin that keeps the focus on the essence while remaining willing to engage with a world in constant transformation, with skepticism and an open mind; by educating regulators that Bitcoin is the decentralized cryptocurrency and that all other projects are centralized cryptocurrencies.

In the third piece, I took this vision into the diplomatic arena. I wrote an open letter to Bhutan’s prime minister suggesting that the country consider adopting the satoshi as its national unit of account.

Open Letter to Dr. Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan

Your Excellency https://twitter.com/tsheringtobgay?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

,

It is with deep respect and admiration that I write to you, recognizing Bhutan’s remarkable journey in preserving its sovereignty, cultural identity, and commitment to Gross National… https://t.co/2tuTgfzAQi

— Praia Bitcoin Brazil ⚡ (@BitcoinBeachBR) https://twitter.com/BitcoinBeachBR/status/1957806023428763843?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

The proposal, more symbolic than technical, had a clear goal: to imagine how Bitcoin can engage with alternative development models that do not depend on the IMF or the dollar and that respect local culture and sovereignty. The reaction to the letter revealed something important: even within the Bitcoin ecosystem there are ideological lanes: conservatives, centrists and https://bitcoinmagazine.com/bigread/bitcoin-political-side-trump-politics

, each trying to interpret the protocol through a distinct worldview.

This article is therefore a point of convergence. It ties together those three experiences (practical, ideological and diplomatic) to propose a fresh look at what we are really trying to build. More than repeating dogmas, this moment calls for discernment. More than talking about freedom, it is time to practice it where it is most needed — on the ground, in our language, in our institutions and in our relationships.

In the fourth piece, I distilled my open note to https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/tribalism-is-not-the-core-problem

into a simple point: keep Bitcoin a peer‑to‑peer cash system, not a generic data host.

Hello https://twitter.com/bitcoincoreorg?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

,

We live Bitcoin. We dedicate our lives to it, full time, nonstop. On the ground, we work as part of Bitcoin’s invisible team, often without salaries, simply because we believe in its power to fix money and defend society from injustice and… https://t.co/QLieljdVJn

— Praia Bitcoin Brazil ⚡ (@BitcoinBeachBR) https://twitter.com/BitcoinBeachBR/status/1959392013574394191?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

I argued that loosening default data‑carrying settings invites bloat, legal risk and reputational damage, and asked developers to think in centuries, not release cycles. I also noted that recent Core releases, v29 and v30, revisited how much extra data transactions may carry by default. That lives at the technical https://bitcoinmagazine.com/technical/you-cannot-stop-bitcoin-metaprotocols

. Like a banknote you can scribble on but not use to publish a book, transactions can include small notes but should not be hijacked for unrelated content.

This context raised a bigger question: What do we want Bitcoin to be? The exchange made the fault lines clear: https://www.forbes.com/sites/peterizzo/2022/08/25/how-to-be-a-bitcoin-maximalist/

love Bitcoin for different reasons and accept different trade‑offs. In the next section, I name those lanes and show how they fit together.

Watching Bitcoin Knots gain visibility relative to Bitcoin Core, and hearing developers complain about its pull‑request process, reminded me of the First Follower lesson. Knots is largely maintained by https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fW8amMCVAJQ

Movements do not scale because a lone leader is brilliant. They scale when early followers make participation visible and easy, lowering social risk and showing others exactly how to behave.

From inside the industry, spending countless hours analyzing geopolitics and future trends, I began to see Bitcoiners in four main categories, with the extremes on both sides clearly defined so let’s break them down.

The Four Archetypes of Bitcoin

Bitcoin Database, Coordination Builders

Core belief: Bitcoin is a neutral public record. It can coordinate people and software. Money is one powerful use, not the only one.

What they prioritize: Time‑stamps and proofs; public records; identity attestations; new media on Bitcoin; social protocols like https://bitcoinmagazine.com/conference/a-bitcoiner-must-be-on-nostr

; building most features on upper layers so L1 stays stable.

What they get right: They attract builders and new users with fresh ideas and on‑ramps. More experiments mean more chances to find lasting utility.

Risks and blind spots: The spotlight can drift away from money. Too much nonmonetary data can waste block space and invite controversy. New systems sometimes reintroduce trusted middlemen.

Attitude to Lightning: Open, when it helps apps feel instant. Also explore other rails. Keep L1 simple.

North Star checks: Useful apps with real users; active developers; low, respectful footprint on L1.

Frequent examples: Casey Rodarmor and Ordinals; Muneeb Ali and Stacks; Burak and Ark research; Maxim Orlovsky and RGB; fiatjaf and Nostr; OpenTimestamps. (Note: this is illustrative, not endorsements.)

Tagline: “Bitcoin is a database.”

Bitcoin Central, Market Pragmatists

Core belief: Bitcoin is money and an asset. Price and liquidity drive adoption at scale and help fund security and development.

What they prioritize: ETFs and treasuries; compliant on‑ramps and off‑ramps; deep, healthy markets; education for investors and institutions.

What they get right: Liquidity https://bitcoinmagazine.com/bigread/institutional-capital-bitcoin-bigread

and pays for builders, mining and education.

Risks and blind spots: Convenience custody and short‑term thinking. Distribution can concentrate in a few large hands.

Attitude to Lightning: Pragmatic. Use it when it helps reach more people.

North Star checks: Market depth and volumes; hashrate security budget; ETF and retail participation.

Frequent examples: Michael Saylor; iShares and Fidelity Bitcoin ETFs; market makers; on‑chain analysts. Edge Case: High leverage and over‑reliance on corporate treasuries.

Tagline: “We care about price.”

Bitcoin Conservatives, Monetary Purists

Core belief: Bitcoin is money. Protect the base layer. Scarcity, neutrality and https://bitcoinmagazine.com/technical/stop-pretending-bitcoin-self-custody-is-easy

are nonnegotiable. Save first, then spend (e.g., in a circular economy).

What they prioritize: Simple, stable rules on L1; run your own node; education on keys, UTXOs, and fees; miner and client diversity; long time horizons.

What they get right: Clear incentives and strong culture. If money is broken, every price in the economy is wrong. Fix money first.

Risks and blind spots: UX and payments can lag. Newcomers may feel gatekept. Adoption can slow if everyday use is ignored.

Attitude to https://store.bitcoinmagazine.com/products/the-lightning-issue-38?variant=48505462259949

: Often skeptical. Prefer on‑chain finality and warn about complexity and custodial drift.

North Star checks: More coins in self‑custody; healthy node count; decentralized mining; growing long‑term holder supply.

Frequent examples: Saifedean Ammous; Pierre Rochard; proof‑of‑keys style campaigns; full‑node culture and cold storage. Edge Case: Never sell. Treat every altcoin as a scam.

Tagline: “Bitcoin is digital gold.”

Bitcoin Minimalists: Digital Gold and Digital Cash, Tool for Social Transformation

Core belief: Bitcoin should be digital gold for saving and digital cash for spending, with the smallest possible trust surface.

What they prioritize: Save on‑chain with final settlement; spend via noncustodial Lightning where possible; use ecash mints like https://bitcoinmagazine.com/technical/cashu-a-vision-for-a-bitcoin-powered-ecash-ecosystem

for privacy with simple exit to keys; merchant flows that settle to self custody.

What they get right: Align savings and daily use without giving up sovereignty.

Risks and blind spots: Friction and slower distribution; reluctance to adopt UX abstractions; fragmentation across minimal stacks.

Attitude to Lightning: Yes, but strict. Prefer noncustodial or minimally trusted setups. Be cautious with large custodial hubs.

North‑star checks: Users who both save on‑chain and spend via non‑custodial L2; easy withdrawals to keys; high payment success without custodians.

Tagline: “Buy, spend, replace.”

Conclusion

Bitcoin’s culture includes four honest defaults that often talk past one another. Builders expand the surface area, market pragmatists prove everyday utility, monetary purists scale distribution and minimalists protect the base.

Together. they create a productive tension that keeps Bitcoin useful and resilient for real people.

After years of working in a https://store.bitcoinmagazine.com/pages/bitcoin-circular-economies

and writing publicly about these debates, my view is simple. Bitcoin is money. Keep the base layer simple. Save in bitcoin on-chain. Spend in sats when it serves people, as it does in a circular economy. Support Lightning only when the exit to your own keys stays clear and simple. I do not support the “Bitcoin as Database” path, because turning Bitcoin into a general data host distracts from its monetary mission and invites waste, confusion, and reputational harm.

The way forward is practical and principled. Judge ideas by whether they grow self custody, make payments reliable without custodians, deepen liquidity that funds security and education and respect the limits of the base layer. If we hold to that standard, the lanes can complement one another and more people will share in the benefits of a free, neutral and credibly decentralized money.

Netanyahu Admits Economic Isolation As More European Leaders Talk Arms Embargo

Netanyahu Admits Economic Isolation As More European Leaders Talk Arms Embargo

On Monday a group of 325 former EU ambassadors and senior officials have submitted a letter calling on the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) to impose sanctions on Israel, reported by Euronews. This is in response to the devasting civilian casualties in Gaza and expansionist policies in the West Bank.

The letter urges the UNSC "to adopt sanctions against the multiple violations of international law being perpetrated daily by the Israeli government on the people of Palestine."

This is not going to advanced, of course given that the five permanent UNSC members of China, France, Russia, UK and US are not going to approve it - especially not the Untied States. Each have veto power over such sanctions. But Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu has increasingly acknowledged Israel's growing economic isolation, especially regarding Europe, as he did in fresh Monday comments...

NOW - Netanyahu addresses a Democrat and Republican U.S. Congressional delegation in Israel: "But do you have cell phones? You have cell phones here? You're holding a piece of Israel right there. You know that?" https://t.co/JSeKiXdPkT

"Israel is in a sort of isolation," Netanyahu admitted before conference of the Finance Ministry’s accountant general in Jerusalem. "We will increasingly need to adapt to an economy with autarkic characteristics," he continued - using a term signifying the pursuit of total economic self-sufficiency and domestic reliance. He said this is "the word I most hate."

"I am a believer in the free market, but we may find ourselves in a situation where our arms industries are blocked. We will need to develop arms industries here - not only research and development, but also the ability to produce what we need," he said.

While the Trump administration has expressed it will continue its ironclad security support, Tel Aviv knows it cannot always rely on Washington, given in any era there could be a new administration in the White House, and future policy could shift drastically - as it is doing among several EU states.

To illustrate Trump's ongoing support, Secretary of State Marco Rubio traveled to Israel over the weekend to reaffirm the 'special relationship' - after President Donald Trump is reportedly frustrated with the Israeli attempted assassination of several Hamas officials in Qatar, who were there for a new round of expected negotiations.

Rubio made a visit to the Western Wall, also with Ambassador Mike Huckabee, where he said, “I think his visit here is a testament to the durability, the strength of the Israeli-American alliance. And Netanyahu https://www.nytimes.com/2025/09/14/us/politics/israel-rubio-netanyahu-gaza.html

during the visit that the relationship is "as strong, as durable as the stones in the Western Wall that he just touched. Under President Trump and Secretary Rubio and their entire team, this alliance has never been stronger."

Last week's risky operation in Doha has reportedly pit Israel's intelligence officials against the prime minister. As Israeli war planners plotted a secret strike on Hamas political leaders in Qatar, they chose a plan that enabled them to attack quickly and limited the opportunity for the U.S. to object.

The operation, which was carried out Tuesday, relied on warplanes that fired long range missiles, avoided the airspace of Arab countries and left the Trump administration in the dark until the last moments.

Israeli jet fighters, eight F-15s and four F-35s, flew to the Red Sea, on the opposite side of the Arabian Peninsula from Qatar. From there, some of the planes fired the air-launched ballistic missiles into space over Saudi Arabia at Doha, several U.S. officials said.

If accurate, this allowed the Israelis to inform the White House at the last minute, but in a way where the mission couldn't be shut down. What is clear is that US Patriot batteries did not fire at the inbound missiles. Netanyahu's intelligence chiefs were reportedly against it, wanting a covert or more subtle option less likely to invoke Qatar's wrath.

While five Hamas representatives and a Qatari security official were slain, there has been contradictory reporting over whether the mission took out the desired top Hamas official. Netanyahu has been coming under fire domestically, given it also definitely means near-term negotiations with Gaza leaders are effectively dead.

Western Countries Downing Russian Drones Over Ukraine Will Mean War With NATO: Medvedev

Western Countries Downing Russian Drones Over Ukraine Will Mean War With NATO: Medvedev

Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev has once again issued a firm warning to the Western military alliance backing Kiev, saying that if NATO countries begin shooting down Russian drones over Ukraine during the 'special military operation', this will put Moscow at war with NATO.

The words come dangerously after the last week has seen Russian drones allegedly https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/romania-2nd-nato-nation-week-be-breached-russian-drones

- both NATO member's along the alliance's 'eastern flank'. Moscow has rejected accusations that it intentionally sent these drones, which were by and large 'decoy' UAVs amid broader drone waves targeting inside Ukraine.

"Seriously, implementing the provocative idea of Kiev and other idiots to create a 'no-fly zone over Ukraine' and allowing NATO countries to down our drones will mean only one thing: NATO's war with Russia," Medvedev https://tass.com/politics/2016745

on Telegram Monday.

?itok=u7UPkiZz

He additionally remarked the "powerful European initiative ‘Eastern Sentry’" amuses him as it "seems to be all that remains of the ‘coalition of the willing’."

Over the weekend, a pair of Russian drones were observed and tracked in Romania's airspace, near Ukraine's southern border, the Romanian military said. A pair of F-16s were scrambled, but the pilots refrained from firing on them and they exited back to Ukraine territory.

The former Russian president also made comments aimed at Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur. He is visiting Ukraine. "An Estonian defense minister has arrived in Kiev. He is threatening. The smaller the country, the more aggressive and foolish its leaders tend to be," Medvedev noted.

All the while, Ukraine has continued its cross-border drone attacks on Russian territory. Belgorod oblast authorities https://t.me/vvgladkov/15982

two women in a village near the border with Ukraine were killed in such an attack Monday morning.

Three other people were injured and a vehicle was destroyed, following a night where anti-air defenses were able to intercept six of the inbound drone wave.

The hawks keep pushing for more muscle and present delusional views on the current status of the conflict...

Russia is, in fact, losing the war in Ukraine, says Trump’s special envoy Kellogg — noting that Gen. Caine, Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs, shares the same view.

"Identify, Disrupt, Dismantle, Destroy": White House's Stephen Miller Declares War On Radical Left Groups

Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller joined Vice President JD Vance, who hosted The Charlie Kirk Show earlier, following Kirk's assassination last Wednesday by what has been described as a "https://www.zerohedge.com/political/day-3-charlie-kirks-assassin-still-large-new-footage-released-gop-demanding-probe-radical

.

Miller told Vance, "Which is that we need to have an organized strategy to go after the left-wing organizations that are promoting violence in this country."

"It is a vast domestic terror movement, and with God as my witness, we are going to use every resource we have... throughout this government to identify, disrupt, dismantle, and destroy these networks... and we will do it in Charlie’s name."

It appears that Miller has correctly identified the dark-money-funded NGO world as fueling this madness, and that an urgent all-of-government approach is necessary.

Recent commentary from civil terrorism expert https://x.com/JCAndersonNYC

highlighted the complexity of the radical leftist NGO networks waging war on the nation:

"One of the hardest parts of confronting rising left-wing extremism is that even those who care about the issue often don't understand how it operates. That's not their fault—it's an extraordinarily complex issue. The revolution against the West spans thousands of organizations that may not be formally linked, but are marching in unison toward the revolution."

In fact, we've been warning about civil terrorism emanating like cancer via radical leftist groups for months:

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/masked-protest-industrial-complex-isnt-peaceful-its-civil-terrorism-playbook-combat-chaos

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/transgender-shooter-socialist-rifle-association-and-alarming-rise-far-left-militancy

?itok=_8pAgQ0D

Commenting on Miller's response, Anderson also agreed that a multi-agency, coordinated effort is urgently needed, stressing that disrupting the funding networks of these dark-money–funded NGOs is essential to preventing the Marxist revolution from advancing further through continued political assassinations of America First thought leaders and continued color revolution–style operations on city streets aimed at subverting the nation.

Here's more from the civil terrorism expert:

It's encouraging to see the White House focus on the violent, revolutionary arm of the radical left, but targeting small organizations alone won't solve the problem.

We need a multi-agency coordinated effort, and it must confront the dark-money network of foundations that prop them up.

We also must begin ruthlessly regulating and enforcing the tax-exempt 501(c)(3) system, where the revolution against the West operates. To qualify for tax-exempt status, a group is supposed to serve the public good.

Yet many qualify on flimsy claims of promoting social, racial, or climate justice and then devote themselves to protests and flag-burning.

They are a cancer on society, and the longer we wait, the more it will metastasize.

It's also alarming how closely far-left radicalization mirrors Islamist radicalization. The stages are strikingly similar: Introduction to ideology, Obsession with ideology, Belief that violence is justified, Acts of violence on behalf of the ideology.

Holy. Shit.

US Military Officers In 'Surprise Visit' To Belarus To Observe Joint Russian War Games

US Military Officers In 'Surprise Visit' To Belarus To Observe Joint Russian War Games

Last week we reported on a slow but progressing https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/belarus-frees-52-political-prisoners-gains-us-sanctions-relief-warm-letter-trump

of cufflinks

Ironically this positive momentum between the US and Belarus is happening at a moment the Moscow-allied 'Union State' is hosting joint Russian war games, the "Zapad-2025" drills - also amid soaring tensions with NATO. But another unexpected development has occurred Monday: the Pentagon has sent representatives to observe the war games from Belarusian soil.

?itok=B-2hZyHM

US military officers are on hand to observe the war games in what's being described as a surprise visit wherein Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin instructed that the US officials could look at "whatever is of interest for you."

According to a description in https://www.nbcnews.com/world/russia/us-military-observers-pay-surprise-visit-belarus-observe-war-games-rus-rcna231296

:

"Who would have thought how the morning of another day of the Zapad-2025 exercise would begin?" it [the defense ministry] said in a statement noting their presence among representatives from 23 countries including two other NATO member states — Turkey and Hungary.

The ministry released video showing two uniformed U.S. officers thanking Khrenin for the invitation and shaking his hand. "We will show whatever is of interest for you. Whatever you want. You can go there and see, talk to people," the minister told the Americans, who declined to speak to reporters.

This development is also unprecedented and highly unusual given Belarus has been Moscow's closest partner in executing the 'special military operation' in neighboring Ukraine, having utilized its territory to send tens of thousands of Russian troops into Ukraine in February 2022 and after.

Watch: American greeted by the Belarusian Defense Minister, Viktor Khrenin, who, according to the Belarus MoD, instructed his military to provide "the best seats for American guests, and to show absolutely everything that interests them."

🇧🇾🇷🇺🇺🇸 The Ministry of Defense of Belarus released footage showing U.S. military officers making a visit at the joint Russia-Belarus "Zapad-2025" strategic exercise in Belarus to observe the ongoing drills.

Cross-border drone operations have also at times been reportedly launched from Belarusian territory. There's also the fact that President Putin had previously ordered strategic nuclear weapons to be stationed at Belarusian bases, overseen by Russian military and intelligence officers.

The Zelensky government, as well as his hawkish backers in Europe and among NATO allies, will likely be furious at this news. They will see it as the Trump admin 'colluding' with the enemy amid the standoff with the West.

Importantly, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov in fresh remarks Monday painted a picture of NATO and Russia being in a de facto state of war.

While many among Trump's base have been disappointed that Washington has not yet deescalated its involvement, seeing US colonels in Belarus seems a clear sign that Trump is still serious about seeing it happen. Pentagon officers on hand is largely symbolic, and yet it is resounding, even as US sanctions still exist on the Belarusian government and its military. For now the White House is content with drastically improving its bilateral ties with both Moscow and Minsk, as the war grinds on.

Appeals Court Rules Trump Can't Fire Cook, As Miran Wins Fed Confirmation By 1 Vote Margin

Appeals Court Rules Trump Can't Fire Cook, As Miran Wins Fed Confirmation By 1 Vote Margin

A US appeals court issued an 11th ruling, blocking President Trump from removing mortgage-challenged Fed Governor Lisa Cook from her post while her lawsuit challenging the dismissal proceeds. In a win for the embattled economist, an appeals court in Washington on Monday affirmed that Cook can continue working for now. The ruling means that she can attend the Fed’s highly anticipated Sept. 16-17 meeting to vote on whether to lower interest rates. Still, Trump will immediately ask the Supreme Court to step in, at which point all bets are off.

On Sept 9, US District Judge Jia Cobb - and a sister of the same sorority in which Cook was formerly a member - ruled that Cook could remain on the job as her case proceeded, saying that Trump’s attempt to oust her likely violated the law. The appeals court decision allows that ruling to stand for now.

BREAKING: The DC Circuit has *rejected* Trump's bid to fire Lisa Cook from the Fed board, allowing her to participate in tomorrow's interest-rate setting meeting.

Trump's last hope is a quick stay from SCOTUS. https://t.co/wNtfx9GWW2

— Kyle Cheney (@kyledcheney) https://twitter.com/kyledcheney/status/1967742438547877961?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Last month, Cook sued Trump after the president moved to oust her over allegations of mortgage fraud, which she denies even though she has yet to give a clear reason why she listed two primary residences. The lawsuit has emerged as a major flash-point in the growing clash between the White House and the Fed, which has resisted Trump’s demands to lower interest rates.

What is somewhat ironic in this whole situation, is that Trump is pursuing the person seen as one of the biggest doves on the FOMC during the Biden admin. As Rabobank's Benjamin Picton wrote this morning, "Bloomberg Economics lists Cook amongst the most dovish Fed Governors on its spectrometer, which seems to run counter to the idea that Trump wants to stack the FOMC with doves."

So what is really going on here? Could it be, Picton asks, that the President is convinced that Fed Governors’ determinations of the appropriateness of monetary policy are not a purely technocratic process and actually exhibit some malleability dependent on who happens to be occupying the White House?

If he is right, this former super dove may well vote for a rate hike on Wednesday (even as Bowman and Waller vote for a 50bps rate cut), in the process confirming what Trump may have set out to demonstrate all along: that the Fed is anything but independent, may very well be vindictive, and is certainly not impartial depending on who is in the White House.

?itok=YEX_9Mkr

In somewhat offsetting news, and hitting at almost the same time as the Cook update, the Senate confirmed Trump’s economic adviser Stephen Miran, to a post on the Fed Board, clearing his presence at the Wednesday meeting.

In a 48-47 vote along party lines, the Senate voted to approve Miran’s nomination, setting him up to walk into the Fed’s Washington offices Tuesday morning, just in time for a crucial FOMC meeting scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. Republicans had fast-tracked approval of Miran’s nomination with Trump pressuring the central bank to cut interest rates.

Investors and economists surveyed by Bloomberg expect Fed officials to lower rates by a quarter percentage point on Wednesday, although there i a roughly 10% chance of  a 50bps rate cut, which by the way is what we got exactly a year ago, when inflation was far hotter, and when the economy was decidedly stronger, especially following last week's record negative jobs revision.

“I think you have a big cut,” Trump told reporters on Sunday on his way back to Washington. “It’s perfect for cutting.”

Miran had to sit through his second grueling hearing this year, facing Democrats who ripped his temporary leave of absence from the White House as ridiculous and a threat to the independence of the central bank, especially after Trump moved to fire Fed Governor Lisa Cook and bragged to reporters he would soon have “a majority” on the Fed board.

“Every claim he makes and every vote he takes will be tainted with the suspicion that he isn’t an honest broker, but instead is Donald Trump’s puppet,” Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said at his hearing.

Ironically, it was the same Senator who exactly one year ago, said that the "Fed must cut by 75bps on Sept 18" and then Powell proceeded to cut by 50bps two days later, confirming he was Warren's - and Biden's - puppet.

Elizabeth Warren, Sept 16, 2024: "Fed must cut by 75bps on Sept 18" (the Fed cut by 50bps two days later)

Elizabeth Warren, Sept 4, 2025 to Stephen Miran: "What you are doing (by pushing for lower rates) will take an axe to Fed independence" https://t.co/cCDyLtnxWF

— zerohedge (@zerohedge) https://twitter.com/zerohedge/status/1963615748707815879?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Miran, who has chaired the White House Council of Economic Advisers, told senators he would take an unpaid leave of absence to join the Fed, with no clarity yet on how long he might remain. Trump could nominate him for a full 14-year term to begin in February, or he could choose someone else. Miran could also stay on indefinitely if Trump chooses no one to fill the new term.

One thing is certain: Miran will vote for a 25bps rate cut, and may even vote 50, and he won't be alone since both Waller and Bowman may do the same. Which means that on Wednesday history may be made when we get a four-way vote split: uber doves voting for a 50bps rate cut, Powell and the "moderates" voting for 25bps. Then you have the hard-line pro-Biden supporters (sorry guys, hate to break it to you, but the Fed - which until recently was tasked with enabling a green agenda and social "equity" - has never been and never will be independent) like Goolsbee and Hammack, who may vote to keep rates unchanged, and there is the Lisa Cook wildcard, who may decided to go scorched earth and to vote for a 25bps rate hike.

In such a circus outcome, all bets will truly be off.

'FAFO': Texas Tech Student Who 'Danced On Kirk's Grave' Arrested, Expelled After Aggressive Confrontation

'FAFO': Texas Tech Student Who 'Danced On Kirk's Grave' Arrested, Expelled After Aggressive Confrontation

We're all for free speech - even disgusting free speech... but then there's assault. A Texas Tech student found herself in hot water after mocking the brutal assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk during a prayer vigil for the prominent conservative activist.

?itok=drT7URaP

Camryn Giselle Booker, 18, was caught on camera jumping around, yelling at students, and shoving her phone on the faces of people honoring Kirk, callously shouting, “Fcuk y’all homie dead, he got shot in the head.” The outrageous behavior didn’t stop there. Booker confronted a man in a red MAGA hat, who groaned and remarked while panning to her, “Evil is real, people — and it kind of looks like that.”

Update: she was arrested and expelled from her college https://t.co/oQJpfr0L4S

The footage shows Booker erupting when someone off-camera suggested she was being too emotional. “I’m not being emotional, ma’am. Don’t tell me what I am and what I’m not,” she snapped. “’You could get out of my face ’cause I can tell you what you are, but you won’t like it.”

?itok=bFNleCw2

"I want to be left alone," said a man in a MAGA hat, before someone told Booker she was being emotional.

According to the Daily Mail;

The situation then escalated when Booker allegedly shoved several people, including an elderly veteran and a young mother with her child - which prompted a physical altercation that spread into the street.

Booker was then taken into custody and was charged with battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest and was cited for assault.

She was released on a $200 bond the next day, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office confirmed to the Daily Mail.

Booker then played the race card (shocking, we know), accusing vigil attendees of bigotry for calling out her disgraceful conduct. “I’m not being aggressive. My voice is very calm. You’re calling me aggressive because I’m a black woman,” she claimed.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) didn’t hold back, sharing an image of Booker in handcuffs. “This is what happened to the person who was mocking Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Texas Tech,” he wrote, adding the blunt acronym “FAFO” — short for “Fuck around and find out.”

Booker was hit with charges of battery, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest, with an additional citation for assault, according to the https://nypost.com/2025/09/15/us-news/texas-tech-student-arrested-after-hurling-vile-comments-at-charlie-kirk-mourners-f-k-yall-homie-dead/

Kirk was gunned down on stage Wednesday evening during a packed "American Comeback Tour" event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. Video footage captured the horrifying moment as Kirk, mid-debate on transgender gun violence with a heckling audience member, recoiled in agony from a sniper's bullet to the neck, collapsing in a pool of his own blood before stunned bodyguards and supporters dragged him to safety. A 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, has since been apprehended after a frantic 33-hour manhunt fueled by surveillance images, but the alleged assassin refuses to cooperate. Trump Threatens National Emergency After DC Mayor Blocks Cops From Helping ICE

Trump Threatens National Emergency After DC Mayor Blocks Cops From Helping ICE

President Donald Trump on Monday threatened to declare a national emergency in Washington DC after Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that DC police will no longer cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

?itok=DWW8_Tz9

Last month Trump declared a crime emergency in the nation's capitol - with a 30-day federal takeover beginning on Aug. 11, which included federal law enforcement and National Guard troops to combat crime in the city.

With that 30 day emergency now over, Trump said Bowser had notified the administration that the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) will end its cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which Trump strongly opposes.

"The Federal Government, under my auspices as President of the United States of America, has stepped into the complete criminal mess that was Washington, D.C., our Nation’s Capital," Trump https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115206570863756188

to Truth Social. "Because of this, D.C. has gone from one of the most dangerous and murder ridden cities in the U.S.A., and even around the world, to one of the safest — in just a few weeks."

According to Trump, "crime would come roaring back" if the MPD stops cooperating with ICE, and said he would federalize the police department again if he feels its necessary.

"To the people and businesses of Washington, D.C., DON’T WORRY, I AM WITH YOU, AND WON’T ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN. I’ll call a National Emergency, and Federalize, if necessary," he continued.

?itok=GeqrwY7V

Last week Bowser told reporters that the MPD's public safety mission remains unchanged, but the department will no longer help ICE after the emergency order expires.

"The presidential declaration compels the mayor to provide MPD services as requested by the president during the emergency for federal purposes. Immigration enforcement is such a service," she said. "Immigration enforcement is not what MPD does. And with the end of the emergency, it won’t be what MPD does in the future."

Earlier this month Bowser signed an executive order to establish the "Safe and Beautiful Emergency Operations Center" (lol wut), or SBEOC - which is tasked with overseeing DC's response to Trump's federal task force, which will continue coordinating law enforcement efforts with federal agencies including the US Marshals Service and the DEA, but does not include ICE.

Over 2,000 arrests have been made across the DC area since the federal takeover began, according to FBI Director Kash Patel. Meanwhile, the National Guard has extended its troop encampment in the nation's capital through Nov. 30.

Even Bowser admitted late last month that crime has decreased since Trump deployed Guard troops and took federal control of the MPD, the https://www.theepochtimes.com/us/trump-says-he-will-declare-national-emergency-if-washington-stops-cooperating-with-ice-5915039?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=ZeroHedge
