nah, it's not a small server really and also that's a 100% static page served by Nginx, so i think that would take quite a lot...
i hit refresh on that page a ton so i can't say that's been a problem on my end. you gotta refresh a lot while you're developing web sites, so...
run this relay checker on a note ID and tell me if you like it: https://nrcheck.tigerville.no - it's my first Nostr project
fundraiser: we ask you to give to the poor
me: i need you to understand that i am the poor
it's always "fun" when an otherwise reasonably intelligent person starts talking about stuff they have no clue about, and even have strong opinions about it
EMF can't get stuck in things. you can't put it in there by beaming it. it doesn't work like that.
it's probably for the best that if you're a dumb Norwegian, most of the world won't know about it, because you're not gonna be posting in English if you're dumb, whereas if you're from somewhere like the U.K. or US, the stupidity is on display for all the world to see...
you might wanna hit shift+refresh - i manually added relay.mostr.pub in there since it doesn't seem to be on the list, so it's 388 relays now π
ahh, nice, okay, the plan worked. i was doing batches of 16 parallel relay checks for https://nrcheck.tigerville.no before, but if one relay was slow, this would delay the entire next batch, so what i do instead now is i fire up 16 workers that pop from a queue and talk to the relays at their own independent pace, and it's MUCH much faster.
did you verify that they're spamming it?
https://nrcheck.tigerville.no handles note IDs in addition to hex values for checking relays now

if you look at my later posts, i figured out what was going on (only one of those free relays were enabled on the global timeline, and it was the problem)
if you'd like me to continue developing tools for Nostr such as https://nrcheck.tigerville.no, you can encourage me to do so by zapping this post β‘οΈ
uh oh
i think i figured out where the spam is coming from:
wss://relay.mostr.pub
the Fediverse/Mastodon bridge.
it appears that this bridge functions as a general purpose relay - not only a bridge - and the spam bots have discovered it.
i can't have it enabled on Damus' global timeline if it's going to continue doing that. the bridge should probably not be accepting anything that isn't at least interacting with Fediverse users.
it's just a workaround because i haven't figured out the code for how to convert that so the user doesn't have to worry about it
that's why it says "hex" with a link that you click
but right now Damus is showing me posts i shouldn't be seeing, given the relays i'm on, almost as if it's fetching from relays i didn't tell it to use
yes, but the thing is that i've got a setup using relays in a very specific way that SHOULD be filtering the spam out
need to steal a bit of code from somewhere that will convert note IDs to hex event IDs because it's already confusing people
no clue, i have an iPhone so it doesn't matter to me π€·ββοΈ
