Your profile says "please send tips" but the zap icon is greyed out on your notes btw. I would gladly send you a zap

Good to see somebody posting about #h5n1 on here, you're in my feed now!

It suddenly started working again, so next time it happens I'll play around w the relays a bit. This is definitely a rough bit of UX but well worth it

One thing I've found helpful is getting rid of the word algorithm. People don't know what the fuck an algorithm is. They don't want to "pick their own algorithm". Tell them it's "policy". Facebook's policy is to flood your feed with ads, misinformation, and divisive content. Other platforms like nostr don't have that problem. You control what's in your feed.

I think people widely acknowledge this is a problem but just know about solutions like nostr. Point to any recent controversial news event. Point to a political thing they KNOW to be fact and show them how it's actually not true at all and just something the media told them. You can do that for both sides of the aisle pretty easily.

#asknostr my #nostrudel client is getting stuck at "loading..." on the notifications screen, I'm using the default relays. My understanding is that this is often due to a slow relay, how can I figure out which one is slow and remove it?

Also, use the #asknostr tag when you need help, people will answer!

Welcome to nostr!

1. Find people to follow. Just start following anybody who posts anything interesting, you can always slim down your feed later if it gets overwhelming. When you see somebody interesting, check who they follow and follow those people. Idk what client you are on but most have some kind of discovery mechanism you can use. Check topics you are interested in.

2. Get a wallet setup so you can send and receive zaps, it makes the experience so much more fun. I love the feeling when somebody sends me two cents because they liked my post, and I love spreading some good cheer to others. Strike.me is a good custodial wallet and takes < 5 min to setup, Zeus is a great self-custody wallet which is slightly more complex to use and will require you already having some BTC to setup.

Either one can get you an address like kipmurray@strike.me which you can associate with your profile. I'll send you your first zap :).

The #TikTokBan is about to go into effect with broad bipartisan support. Once again, Americans have sold their liberties for the illusion of security. The government has no place telling you what kind of speech you can read or watch and where you can read or watch it. Sad day for America and free speech globally. I don't use TikTok, I think it's garbage, but I support your right to use it or any other app you choose. There is nothing more innately human than the desire to express yourself and connect with others. The TikTok ban is an attack on this right under the guise of "foreign influence", the exact same guise used by despots globally to ban media that is critical of them.

We aren't fighting China by banning TikTok, we're becoming China.

Anybody else find the latest #SnoopDogg album #missionary a little disappointing? The hype was that #DrDre produced it, but this production doesn't sound at all like Dre's signature style, there's a real lack of negative space in any of the songs. Snoop is a legend, the lyrics are great, the production is of immaculate quality, but the vibe isn't what I associate w Dre.

#asknostr What is the closest nostr equivalent to Facebook groups? I want to be able to maintain a list of a group of people and send updates to them (post notes only they can see) and add/remove people as needed. Privacy isn't a major concern but would be nice if it had some. Thanks!
