Many client devs have gotten together to this week to discuss building out and implementing NIP-104. This will give Nostr a truly private and secure messaging alternative to Telegram. Based on recent news, the timing is perfect. It's going to take a lot of time, development, and funding, but I have faith in their drive and their passion.
