Bitcoin fees are currently only a dollar, but niche programmers are suggesting to change the fundamental nature of bitcoin and increase its attack surface to make it more scalable… for people who don’t necessarily know or understand the trade offs of that scaling.

Scaling is an important discussion, but everything is a trade off. I like many of the scaling discussions, but rushing them is another matter.

It costs me $100 to buy a 1oz gold coin by mail, or to send signed documents internationally in a few days. Verification is expensive.

The idea that global monetary verification should be super cheap inherently comes with security trade offs.

All ideas should be evaluated carefully and come to major consensus. Otherwise change proposers risk a fork war.

A double coincidence of wants? I want to type. You want to read. I send to our relays. Relays' delete-timers start. Your client needs to pull from our relay(s) before deleted. The shorter the relay delete-timer, the lower the relay costs, and the more constant your client needs to be online and pulling. You wake up in the morning and read my notes, long after they've been deleted from our relays. So we'll either have to pay the relays, or have an always-on client? Something like that?

Distributing the events over an entire landscape of personal, small, medium, and large-sized relays is a game-changer because it scales up incredibly well.

No one event store needs to hold all of the events and -- here's the kicker -- the longevity of events can negatively correlate with the number of events on a particular relay. At the same time, you can use DVMs, databases, and search engines to traverse the data landscape.

That means data can be decentralized, while data discovery can be centralized.

Before the 1990s most computing was done on mainframes that were expensive and difficult to access, because that was simply the state of hardware.

Then we had a couple decades of software running on personal computing hardware because networking hardware sucked.

Now with broadband we're back to running software on servers because cloud computing has made it cost efficient, and software companies can have far greater control over the user experience.

The looming question in my mind: can we swing the pendulum back in the other direction by focusing on development of p2p apps and infrastructure?

Gonna start deadlifting again.

Used to do a lot of powerlifting to assist with martial arts competitiveness. I kept doing it for a while after that even though I gave up fighting. Lately I just do a lot of biking, pushups, body weight squats, etc.

But my core’s gotten weak from so much sitting and typing. Posture not great unless I am mindful of it. Going to bring back the deadlifts and other things now that my husband has built a home gym, just at a bit lower weight and more reps than I used to.

Deadlifts every day til 100k?

good reminder to (fairly dramatically) slow down dca withdrawal rate (take on a little more theoretical custodial risk, but lower the actual current tangible utxo size costs and risk)
