HAM radio and bitcoin seems to be an ideal match. Untill you realize the barriers.
1) You need to get licensed. In person visit of a HAM club, or testing event is required
2) No commecrial activity on the HAM spectrum allowed
3) No encryption allowed. (How the digital modes work around that rule is a mystery to me)
3) You need to dox yourself with every transmission.
4) Although the infrastructure IS THERE (repeaters, igates...), it's usually provided by pretty conservative crowd that addhered to all the written and unwritten rules their entire life.
It's a shame though. We could learn a lot from them. They master the physical layer. It looks like magic to people primarily working with software.
I hope we will settle on a decent communication protocol way sooner than the continents re-arrange themselves as much as on the picture.

The explanation on the website does not really explain the sudden shutdown. There are ways to gracefuly sunset an instance. It was not done. That points to the possibility of a some kind of technical problem. However, I've managed to notice Luke's toot about searching for a new instance ASAP, so he somehow knew it was going to happen.
And is there any way to get to the list of people I followed? As far as I know, the instance wasn't properly de-federalized (I can still see my old profile following others from their home instances), so the data should be somewhere, unles you just wiped the whole machine.
