Creating AI art. Making Nostr 👕 Just plain having fun!⚡️

Mario liked mushrooms, but not mushroom clouds.

Bowser definitely wanted to ruin the day,

but not if a simple plumber had anything to do about it.

#MarioDay

There will be joy on #MarioDay only if I say so.

-Bowser, King of the Koopa

Mysteries await

and maybe a ghost or two

inside the castle, oh and traps too

#WelcometoNostr Day 10

If you're new to Nostr, and haven't made a post yet, make one about Mario, because March 10th is #MarioDay

MAR 10 = Mario

"Wahoo!"

Every day has beautiful moments.

Sometimes it's nice to get cozy and scroll through my #nostr feed.

How do you mention another user on Nostr?

In some Nostr clients, you can type @j for example, and it will list display names you follow that start with @j (clients vary on this).

You can also copy and paste the entire public key / npub into your note.

But remember to put the @ symbol before hand, or you'll get this:

npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m

Now try the exact same as above but now with the @ put before the public key, and it looks like this:

#[2]

That's better. Hello, #[3]

Unlike other sites, you can change your "username" on Nostr. It's the behind-the-scenes linking of your public key that keeps mentions etc. linked to you if you change your username.

Just FYI, I haven't tried changing my username to test it fully. Proceed with caution if you do. It might take relays time to reflect the change.

Life is beautiful.

Cherish it.

Be present for it.

Celebrate it with those you love.

The adventure continues, and I will be a part of it.

If user/display names aren't unique how can you trust who is who?

Centralized platforms haven't been able to prevent from scammers/jokesters from pretending to be big name accounts.

Nostr takes a different approach.

On Nostr, we verify ourselves. Thank you very much.

That's where the purple check (as displayed on many clients) comes in.

Think of checkmark as being verified by a domain like an email. There can be thousands of emails with the username prefix Jack, but only one Jack@protonmail.com for example.

A NIP-05 Verification is basically a domain saying that it will vouch for your account.

You can have your own domain give your account the check by adding a simple file and a little configuration tweak.

Or you can have a service like NostrVerified check your Nostr Identity against your Twitter Account. Other NIP-05 verifiers will give the badge for a small fee. It can be any domain in theory.

I really like the ability to verify through your own domain/website if you have one. You're not reliant on someone else to verify. I found the Bitcoin Manual article about NIP-05 when I started, and it helped me. Hopefully helpful to you too.

When I read the quote to the fam, I slipped up and said, “Twister” instead of Twitter. Either I was too excited to be quoted, or somehow we’re going to have NostrTwister some day.

100%, the twitter experience is one of the low hanging fruits, more low hanging fruit:

* medium (🎩 #[3]'s https://habla.news)

* github-like

* google docs-like

* dropbox-like

* cragislist-like (https://ananostr.com)

* airbnb-like (also https://ananostr.com soon)

* amazon-like

and those are just low-hanging fruit

less obvious:

* topic-based/regional relays (#madeira will be one of the firsts adopting this cc #[4])

* reputation systems (e.g. WoT)

the interesting part comes when these experiences compound off each other and we explore the next level of innovation this enables

So much potential for nostr! It’s like the early days of the internet. There are possibilities we can’t even imagine just right under our noses. So much potential beyond simply replicating Twitter.

#WelcometoNostr Glad you're here!

Day 7 of #MarchOffTwitter

"Usernames"

"Usernames" are not unique on Nostr. Think of the Username more as a display name.

Your unique public key is what really identifies you. When you "@" mention someone, the behind-the-scenes workings points to unique public key.

But can't people impersonate each other by having the same display name? Ah, that's where NIP-05 comes in (tomorrow's tip).

Even though user/display names aren't unique. You are. Express your interests likes and thoughts on #nostr Have fun. Be uniquely you. There's only one after all.
