Looks like photos of the Orphan Train kids. 1850s New York was a terrible place with lots of immigrants and lots of death and abandonment. It’s entirely possible that there could have been that kind of “influx” of orphans. Of course it’s also possible parents sold them into indentured servitude for a few dollars and they went to work in sweatshops.

John Nance Garner, aka Cactus Jack was FDR's Vice President between 1933 and 1941. The long-serving Texan famously described the vice presidency as being "not worth a bucket of warm piss".
The reason I bring this up is to point out that the VP really has little constitutional power or duty other than breaking a tie vote in the US Senate and inquiring about the health of the sitting POTUS.
Our current VP, Kamala Harris, has not disappointed anyone as you have to have some expectations of accomplishment before one can be disappointed. Named as the Border Czar, a non-cabinet duty mostly considered busy work in order to help her build some semblance of success just in case she needed something to build her case for higher office.
Whether Ms. Harris helped or hurt her future chances for the Presidency is irrelevant because she wasn't making any decisions.
However, she has zero executive experience and her decision-making skills should be considered before voting for her. The US Presidency is not a place for on-the-job learning.
Her resume in being a City District Attorney, a State Attorney General, and a US Senator all from a state (California) that has been one-party ruled for decades culminating in population loss for the first time in its history. After these electoral successes she was elevated to that "bucket of warm piss" position mostly due to her demographic background as pointed out by her POTUS when he notified everyone that he was going to choose a black woman as his running mate.
That's all well and good and good for her! She needs some serious vetting before she gets a real job that represents all Americans and not just her left-leaning constituency.
I would recommend that you look at all her comments made when she was running for the Presidency in 2020 to get a more fulsome expression of her identity. Good luck!
