World's first Bitcoin #implant man, former marketing manager at generalbytes.com, likes #stonks, #guns, loves #bitcoin and #streetart. Notes posted here are personal opinions, not those of any company.

"With Silicon Valley Bank going under in the blink of an eye, panic is setting in for the venture capital and tech world. Circle announces exposure to the bank and the USDC peg fights to stay at $1"

When will people realize that 'stable'coins are anything but stable? In addition to the regular risks with storing your fiat at a bank, you also run the risk of mismanagement by the stablecoin issuer and quite often there is no transparency whatsoever in where your collateral is actually stored or if it is even there?

Hold #bitcoin or #fiat, don't fall for the countless scams, unregulated securities, fake DeFi nonsense, sham audits or faked proof of reserve.

Thought 💭 of the day: It would be nice if my Nostr client would be able to schedule posting notes like telegram has.

I identify as Bro / Bruh, please respect my pronouns. 😁

Thanks for the tip. I used to love Instagram, it's like Twitter but for the illiterate. 😉 Mindless scrolling for hours. 😂

I love my Ametisty 😁 except for the name, so hard to spell you'd think that's not good for marketing but the app runs pretty good here. I do notice a lot of data usage but that's Nostr's decentralised nature. For this reason I've limited the app to Wi-Fi only. I think some don't realize the amount of data the app sometimes uses before it can show you all your updates, mobile network can't keep up and then blame the app for sluggish performance. I'd like to see #hashtags properly working but overall, I'm a happy ostrich here with my Amethyst in my pocket.

🐂💩It is in the Play Store, just search for 'Amethyst nostr' proof from Portugal 🇵🇹 (that's also in 🇪🇺)

That's more like a Twitter clone than an Instagram clone. Ideally I just want to use social media to look up pictures of my exes and laugh at how fat and old they have become so I can feel good about myself. After all, isn't that the sole reason social media was 'invented'?

My flag 🚩 planting strategy is 🇵🇹 and 🇳🇱. Portugal is my jurisdiction of choice because of the mild winter climate and generally relaxed way of life. I live in the south, the Algarve region, and people are, for the most part, very friendly, compared to Amsterdam, where I'm originally from.

The internet is fast, much faster than in Amsterdam so ideal for the digital Nomad lifestyle and up until recently they had a very relaxed attitude towards bitcoin. In addition, the cost of living is reasonable compared to life up north although prices went up everywhere.

Food is good, much better than what we're used to in the Netherlands and for example, you can't pick a supermarket wine that doesn't taste great. In Amsterdam, most supermarket wines cost twice as much and taste like vinegar.

The coastal line here is beautiful and quite dramatic with all the cliffs, walking outside in nature is really relaxing as opposed to the stress I'm used to in Amsterdam. I really enjoy walking the dog on the beach in winter and be the only one there.

There are many more reasons but these are a few of the things that come to mind.

I don't speak Portugese yet but considering that my Portugese neighbor in Amsterdam hardly speaks any Dutch after living there for over 25 years, I figured I have plenty of time to learn, besides almost everyone speaks English too, unlike in France or Spain. 😉

I do like Amsterdam too and still spend my holidays there but my main residence is Portugal but I would not be able to live in Portugal full-time, I prefer the balance between Portugal, Amsterdam and about a month of travel every year. (the flag 🚩 planting strategy)

In the Netherlands we have a saying, that if it's good for Louis van Gaal, it's good for you too. Hard to translate and you won't get it unless you're from the Netherlands.

Can someone make an Instagram clone on Nostr? I miss my endless stream of cute puppy 🐶 videos.

Oh sorry, for a while I thought you are US based, didn't travel much (yet) and was looking for a jurisdiction to live. Because of this I wrote my reply from a US based perspective.

As stated in the original note, I think the best is to have several places you can call home. Every jurisdiction comes with its own advantages and disadvantages and the trick is to balance that and cherry 🍒 pick all the nice things from both. #freedom is what you make it.

For me it's Portugal but think the best way is to have several places you can call home (i.e. Have a toothbrush waiting for you) and it's called the flag planting strategy.

One of the main purposes of Flag Theory is to weaken the grip that any one country has on you, your money, and your freedom.

Dividing your loyalties, so to speak, between two countries is one of the best ways to do this.

That is why the second citizenship or residency flag is the first one on the list of things to claim your freedom.

Every citizenship comes with rights and responsibilities. The key is to find the country that offers you the rights you’re looking for with the responsibilities you’re willing to shoulder.

You didn’t choose the responsibility of paying 40% or more in taxes to your home country. It’s likely that decision was made for you the moment you were born. But maybe you’re okay with paying 10% or 20% instead.

With Flag Theory, you can decide where to plant your citizenship flag and choose to accept the obligations that come with it. Having dual citizenship or residencies means that you’re never a slave to one country.

But let’s be clear: Is dual citizenship a get-out-of-jail-free card for paying taxes?

No.

This is especially true for US citizens. If you are a US citizen, you have to pay taxes no matter where you live and no matter how many other citizenships you acquire.

Can you keep more of your own money and lower your taxes with a second citizenship?

Yes.

But you’re always going to be a US citizen (unless you renounce, of course) and that means that you will always have US citizen reporting and tax-paying requirements.

In short, if you're a US citizen, the flag planting theory won't work as well for you as for those with other nationalities but there are still options.

Taught of the day: It would be nice if my feed on Nostr wasn't just about Nostr, Zapps, and Bitcoin and instead offered a more varied source of news and entertainment. (like Facebook and Twitter)

Second thought: When I got started on the world wide web back in 1993 using the NCSA Mosaic web browser, the only real information on the internet was information about the internet so not all is lost. (yet)

I wish I had window frames like that. 😁

Our great grandparents used to sit around a campfire, stare into the flames and tell their stories. Nowadays, social media is the campfire around which we tell our stories.

If we want to succeed as a society, the digital infrastructure behind social media must reflect the infrastructure of society in the physical world. (distributed, decentralised)

In my opinion, it's not about companies, its about the infrastructure that powers it. The current architecture of most social media platforms is centralized (Twitter, Facebook, etc.) and Nostr is currently our best shot at breaking this centralized architecture.

Although far from perfect (no offense @fiatjaff), it's good enough for now and will hopefully grow into something more usable for the general public.

https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/Twitter yes, they are having issues. (again) Who would have thought that firing more than 2/3 of staff would result in stability problems. 😂🤣

It verifies correctly here sir! Now we all know you're the real deal. 😉
