My parents are political prisoners in Tajikistan.

In May 2022, my mother, Ulfatkhonim Mamadshoeva, a journalist and women’s rights defender and my father, Kholbash Kholbashov, a former general and activist, were arrested during a government crackdown on peaceful protests in Tajikistan.

They were sentenced behind closed doors on false charges: my mother to 21 years, and my father to life in prison. Their only “crime” was standing up for human rights.

I’m sharing their story because silence is not an option.
