Same trex drawing, but added a grey background to give it more oomph!

Do you good people have any recommendations on solo mining units for crypto? It's it even worth trying mining these days?

Something that's available in the UK for maybe £100-200.

My drawing of a trex skull from this evening.

It's a new world record (for me)! Managed to get 1 mile out of #meshtastic today. And one message sent a mile back from the basement of a building!

Used my phone with the Heltec on the handle bars. Then used the t-deck in the pouch to double check I wasn't tripping balls. 😄

If it's to use meshtastic I'd say look into a t-deck. It's a self contained unit with screen and keyboard. They're about $70.

I've done few posts here about meshtastic. I have 3 devices. It's great. Definitely need a decent antenna, get it up high, and keep your device running. Do those things and you'll see people popping up all over your map. 😊👍

Bought it from AliExpress. I'm using it more as a toy, but it's a powerful device that can read, record and playback all sorts of signals. I live near a football stadium and I could tune in and listen to the camera crew being told to swish between cameras and that kinda thing. You can receive plane data such as model, speed, altitude, destination, etc. A ton of other stuff.

Walkie talkie is 1 to 1. With meshtastic units you can effectively set up a group chat if you wanted to. You're also using other meshtastic units as a kinda pass through to reach further off units. Hence the idea of a mesh.

The #meshtastic Heltec V3 with it's armour plating 😄

Now has a Nokia style battery and a better 868 (euro) antenna.

Yeah I like the V3 but it does require a phone to Bluetooth the message to the V3 for sending. The t-deck though is self contained. Very good unit. See a couple of posts back in my profile for it. It has it's own built in keyboard.

Adding a case and battery to the ol' Heltec V3 with #meshtastic

Yeah, it's definitely best used in places like the US where even if you lose all internet and cellphone signal (tornado or something?) you can still message as long as you're within range of another unit. As it's using radio not WiFi/cell towers.

The unit I have on my roof is marked as a router/client so it will pass messages through to others making me the middle man. Which is fine by me. Costs nothing to do it.

I don't have many nodes near me, but I know some people are setting up self sufficient nodes (units with solar charged batteries and the like) in certain areas. The higher the better.

I'm just messing about with it, as we don't have tornados out earthquakes here in the UK.

Even with tiny antennas and low antennas I was getting distances of about 1km.

Definitely a good thing to have it things go down. Literally!

I've yet to try it, but I've read that the boards have a recharging circuit. So I just need to plug the t-deck into USB to recharge the batteries.

Another look at the #meshtastic t-deck upgrade.

This means I can now message without the need for a phone. Perfect!

Since it has an upgraded antenna, I'll do some distance tests by messaging my #1 unit that sits outside with an 868 yagi antenna and running off a big ol' chunky USB battery bank.

The ol' #meshtastic t-deck has had an upgrade.

I tried printing a case for it myself, but my printer is just a touch too small to make a nice chunky case like this. It uses 2 x 18650 batteries. So it's now completely self contained.

T-deck has arrived! More #meshtastic shenanigans...

Max says " #zapathon ? Woof yes!" 😄

I'm in the #zapathon . Are you??
