The whole Lossiemouth "Martian" story was fabricated and the book published well before they knew his involvement. If anything it was Desmond Leslie who "converted" Dowding to it, so the blame more should be laid at his door for taking advantage of the aging Dowding who was clearly looking for answers/salvation/hope beyond what war had given.
