𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 ‘𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗲’ 𝗕𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿?

𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘵?

Here’s my take, based on all of the data I’ve consumed thus far 👇🏼

First of all, there has been much debate over the years about what makes someone a “real” bitcoiner, and perhaps even more about what 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵.

Does a bitcoiner have to own bitcoin and nothing else? What about their local fiat currency? If they still own some fiat to pay their bills or to buy the dip, then are they not a “true” bitcoiner?

Do they have to mine bitcoin? Run a node? Hold their own private key? Keep their sats in cold storage?

Or maybe there’s something more fundamental that makes someone a bitcoiner.

Without falling into any “true Scotsman” fallacies, here’s what I have managed to understand as the essence of what makes someone a bitcoiner:

𝗔 ‘𝗕𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿’ 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲, 𝗿𝗼𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴.

𝘒𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘉𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘰𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧.

✅ Bitcoin is always true, and bitcoiners are those who try to be likewise.

✅ Bitcoin rejects others’ lies, and bitcoiners are those who try to do that, too.

✅ Bitcoin is antifragile, and bitcoiners are those who strive for that, as well.

✅ Bitcoin is always improving beyond its old weaknesses, and bitcoiners are those who reach for that in their own lives.

✅ Bitcoin operates according to Proof of Work, and bitcoiners work hard to live like that, too.

If someone works to emulate their life after Bitcoin’s qualities, then they will do all the other things — own bitcoin, withdraw it from the exchange, put it in cold storage, run a node, run a miner, build Bitcoin things, etc. — as soon as they’re mentally, physically, and financially capable.

This is the real reason why bitcoiners say “Fix the money, fix the world”. But that saying skips the middle step:

𝗙𝗶𝘅 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆 → 𝗙𝗶𝘅 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣 → 𝗙𝗶𝘅 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱.

How is that working out? Trumping what?
