to me at age 40, people in their teens and twenties are like sloths. half the day is over and you already got your chores done, and they're just barely crawling out of bed. they need a lot of sleep AND they stay up late, so they'll wake up and dinner is their breakfast.

have i forgotten how much i slept when i was 20 years younger? i think i might. to me, people that age seem to want to sleep all day.

tried making a voice call on Matrix yesterday. it didn't connect. i have no clue what's wrong. my client is Element, my broadband router is entirely average, and i'm running Synapse on my #Matrix server. is there some kind of debugging/testing tool for this to check if my server's correctly configured?

nostr:npub13y8tztx3un67myysq4j5rdujnwngx2vgq73hxj74yddl46rxr8dstv786k i think that level of logistical tracking is typically more common to implement at the distributor level, but my problem was that i only had one day a week to restock, and relatively little shelf space, so i had to try to predict in advance how to allocate a rather limited amount of shelf space so every item would run out roughly once a week.

nostr:npub13y8tztx3un67myysq4j5rdujnwngx2vgq73hxj74yddl46rxr8dstv786k in other words, in typical geek fashion, i turned a practical problem into a computer science problem, lol

nostr:npub13y8tztx3un67myysq4j5rdujnwngx2vgq73hxj74yddl46rxr8dstv786k i think i actually got a little more extreme than even the supermarkets are because before i gave up on that, i was trying to figure out how to track it all in real time on the computer, and not even supermarkets do that. they just check shelves and restock when it looks like it's gonna run out.

technically speaking, a "little cabinet" is a "little little cabin"

nostr:npub1cuscsrz6efq99ptktk26x58v4yqy9y46ytp8xw4rjjwq0wlt6znst66789 I'm reminded of the modern use of the term "normalise". It used to mean bringing something into a normal state. But these days it is used in the sense of creating "a new normal".

I am of the opinion you can't do that. And you shouldn't. Beauty standards are not generated by media or the patriarchy. They are sometime abused and exploited by those things, yes. But you can't just change the standard to fix that problem.

nostr:npub10tatyrd9pk4dwem62mev9ark2kzw7pywp2veujfaheejmnq9r0dqyksw7k they come from somewhere. go back to the 40s or 50s and more body fat was the norm. why did that change? i don't know, but it changed.

talking about women's issues feels like such a minefield when you're a guy - which makes sense, but women are half of all humans - not saying something about half of all humans seems a little extreme unless you live under a rock...

nostr:npub10tatyrd9pk4dwem62mev9ark2kzw7pywp2veujfaheejmnq9r0dqyksw7k it kind of depends on which wave of feminism you were bottled up on. the predominant kind in Norway for much of the post-war era was very no-nature-all-nurture. nowadays, it seems to be more like nature-and-nurture in about equal amounts, which of course makes it more difficult to conclude one way or another, in the classical Scandinavian tradition of not taking sides ever...

nostr:npub10tatyrd9pk4dwem62mev9ark2kzw7pywp2veujfaheejmnq9r0dqyksw7k with that said, on the topic of beauty ideals, the predominant view of the mainstream Norwegian media, which is largely social-liberal, is that this is an attitude problem - something that can be fixed.

nostr:npub10tatyrd9pk4dwem62mev9ark2kzw7pywp2veujfaheejmnq9r0dqyksw7k basically entering the mindfuck territory where what's feministic to one person can be misogynistic to another, even though both are claiming to be feminists

Are you trying to imply that woman's natural instincts are negative for some reason? Sounds a bit misogynistic to me.

nostr:npub1cuscsrz6efq99ptktk26x58v4yqy9y46ytp8xw4rjjwq0wlt6znst66789 yet ironically enough american foods is perhaps the least "safe" to consume

nostr:npub1ulntzghcwqnzdqdz4vsqhsshlulzsjsetwgzm76xcpss6nzjy9xs0yzdch it makes sense that calorie-rich ingredients are the most universally liked ones, and after that, fairly bland and inoffensive stuff, and that's how you get a cheeseburger with fries.

certain ingredients are a safe choice almost no matter which country your dinner guests come from.

if you take all of the safe ingredients and create a cuisine from it, what you get is American food.
