cryptsetup is remarkably resilient against having random parts of the file overwritten. I can overwrite the first 16KB of my test device and it doesn't seem to even notice (or, more likely, is silently recovering).

Overwriting 10MB starting at 1MB into the block device? No big deal. No corruption.

There are parts I can corrupt which will cause problems, but I expected it to refuse to unlock when I destroyed the beginning of the file.

And if you have any idea of what I'm talking about right now, we should follow each other. πŸ˜†

Today is supposed to be #Signet #Saturday but my lab bench is full of #3DPrinter filament (oh, and I do mean FULL).

So I am building an artistic shelf to hold said filament so I can get back to work.

I've probably spent 8 hours on it so far and now I'm getting to the finishing, which will be a lot more wall time, but not a huge amount of touch time left.

I'll post a pic when it's finished

I saw your reply and immediately thought "Oh, I should follow this person!"

I already do. πŸ™‚πŸ™ƒπŸ˜†

They don't pretend it's not hard work in this article either...

β€œYou wake up and do what you think is important,” Ms. Sampson said. β€œBut when I’m outside working, and it’s 107 degrees, it’s hard to remain grateful. But I am grateful.”

Another story about people leaving the cities. They specifically mention there's a large number of IT folks.

Apparently you can now buy ammo from a vending machine soon.

It'll cost you money, your biometrics and a copy of your ID. No details on data retention and shring, but I expect buying patterns will be much more closely monitored than going into a gun store and flashing an ID and handing over some cash.

Yesterday I confused the words "jacuzzi" and "yakuza". Now I'm in hot water with the Japanese mafia.

Unpopular opinion: there are no known tax loopholes

The tax code was written to provide an incentive for things the lawmakers want to encourage. This may be cheap gasoline, clean energy, domestically made products, or whatever. Those who are supposedly exploiting loopholes are really just following the rules and doing the very thing that the lawmaker was incentivising.

Now, people may disagree with the lawmaker's intent. But that doesn't make it a loophole.

There could also be poorly written laws that do not incentivise the intent. I'll concede that these are, in fact, loopholes. However, as soon as the word gets out, the lawmakers could update the law to meet their intent. If they do not even try to do so, it's because that was their intent (or it's the intent of the subsequent lawmakers that ousted the original author).

Today is a good day to be working on a #meshtastic node.

This node is live and relaying mesh traffic right now. I still haven't managed to get it to connect to WiFi, but I am able to send messages around over serial (more specifically: USB).

The plan is to configure a node to be a mesh to MQTT gateway, which will require getting this to connect to wifi. Then I should be cookin'.

Final step will be to tx/rx over serial (GPIO pins, not USB) from an other microcontroller. At that point the network layer can be done and the real fun can begin.

Nothing Earth shattering and it doesn't have any data past 2022.

Oh look a troll that hasn't left the house in years. 🀣

RFK is pro gun and wants to drastically reduce the size of government. But you'd have to spend like 12 seconds to glance at any policy he's avdocating for to know that.

The media says #RFK Jr is an #anti-vaxxer, #conspiracy theorist, and eats dogs (no, I am not making this up), and yet he is STILL polling at 19% among #Democrats.

Americans are hungry for someone other than Biden or Trump. Someone who has more to offer than just telling you the apocalypse will start if their biggest opponent gets elected.

Oh and that 19% number, it's something that both the #WashingtonPost and #FoxNews agree on.

So if you're about to jump in and claim it's not true, you better have some sources to cite.

I use a whole bunch of different secure messengers. Mainly Matrix, Signal, Simplex, and Briar. Roughly in that order, which is largely dictated by what protocols I have in common with people.

None of them are perfect, or appropriate for all situations, but Simplex has quite a bit going for it.
