If you try to climb out of the muck people respond.

Some try to pull you back down with them. It’s out of their own fears of failure, they’re threatened by the possibility they don’t empower themselves to explore. They’ll target your and cheer smugly if you fail.

Some will give you a boost, an opportunity, cheer you on because they believe in themselves and so maybe they can believe in you. Your success is validation to them, your effort is motivation.

All of this is projection, and has nothing to do with who you are or what you’re capable of. Remember that, because climbing takes strength.
