Umbrel Home - Performance
What was I looking forward to in terms of performance increase?
I mainly use my node for wallet backend and maintaining lightning channels
I see 50% reduction in the time to sync onchain balance using mobile wallet (nunchuk)
With the Raspberry Pi, the iPhone screen used to dim 2 times while waiting for the balance to sync (having to tap the screen to prevent from going to home screen)
With the Home, the balance sync will complete before the screen dims
This is great & I'm happy with the performance increase

Hodling isn't easy
If you feel your conviction waning and hodl grip loosening:
bitcoin is the best money in human history
Fiat is the worst money in human history
One has integrity and the other does not
There is no reason to go back to inferior money

Wow
Tried out binance's lightning deposit and withdrawal
Flawless user experience
If binance Japan does what is common sense, and not start doing some stupid localization stuff that other international exchanges do when they enter Japan, the exchange game in Japan could change.
Totally different league in terms of technical capabilities compared to Japanese exchanges
The CPU power of Umbrel Home came in handy today as I performed a rescan of unspent UTXOs 4 times today. (1 time by mistake, forgetting to update conf file to prevent rescan)
I was told a UTXO rescan would take close to 24hours with a raspberry pi, but the Home crunched through it in 5.5 hours.
The reason for the multiple rescans?
The node onchain wallet was counting SPENT UTXO as unspent and was invalidating further onchain txns.
This was caused by several complications that were caused by multiple lightning channel openings and closings happening around the same time.
The real culprit that started causing issues was a opening txn that I did using unspent outputs.
I won't be doing this again, I will have low time preference and wait for confirmation from now on.

I heard Sony is helping make Raspis and they are working to build up inventory so the prices should starting coming back down.
I wasn't doing anything computationally heavy so my experience with the Raspi Umbrel was very good.
My main use case was backend for onchain wallets and managing less than 10 lightning channels.
For that It was very reliable and I had no issues.
If the price comes back down to reasonable levels, I still think it is a good way for people interested in running Bitcoin to get their foot through the door.
The Umbrel Home is great, but it's still 10 man yen so that's a pretty high hurdle if one is just starting out 😅
Cleaning my main Raspberry Pi node as I migrate to Umbrel Home.
This is how dirty the fan gets in a few months.
I've heard it's a non-rare event that a bug gets stuck in the fan which causes the Raspi to over-heat.
