In the EU, your vote matters even less than in most other Western democracies.
There's two big blocks controlling the EU Parliament, and they vote the same 85% of the times. And if something really matters, then they'll use one of the multiple branches of the unelected EU bureaucracy to regulate it.
nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 is OLYMPUS reachable through Tor? When I have Orbot on, the embedded node shows the channels as offline unless I first start the node and then turn Orbot on to connect to Tor-only peers.
The whole thing has been misunderstood by someone and amplified the other way around.
The ban on anonymous payments is on hosted (custodial) wallets, not on self-hosted wallets. It's bad as it is, but it follows the logic of the EU AML, if you provide money transmission services, you must KYC your clients.
I'd be more concerned about the use of CASPs (Crypto Assets Service Providers), an ad hoc made up term that could be easily expanded in the future, at ECB's will, to include whatever they want. CASPs are the ones who need to KYC their clients. For now that's mostly custodial wallets and ecash mints - since exchanges were already required to KYC to operate in the EU. In the future, they could use this term to include LSPs, lighting nodes, whirlpool/coinjoin coordinators, robosats coordinators, whole L2s like liquid, etc...
I appreciate the kind words.
Of course there's no more repercussions than being pissed off by a rando, that's what makes nostr so great. Hopefully that's enough to make you think maybe there's something you are missing before shitting on everyone that doesn't do what you do. At least that was the idea behind my comment.
Anyway, have a good weekend pleb!
You are free to be as loudly stupid as you want, nobody is denying you that. You're not free from being told you're making a fool of your self... ya know, free speech, not free from repercussions.

You do realize there are more countries than USA in the world, right?
Maybe it's easy for you to get paid in fiat and automatically turn it into Bitcoin, which is what you are doing so still participating in the fiat system, but that doesn't mean it's just as easy for everyone. Look further than your bellybutton before calling everyone out. Stay humble.

Of course they don't like it, but I think they know they can't do anything about it. They can slowly tighten the noose, but if they go to far, people will flee to the grey/black market and they'll lose all control and tax revenue. Central and Northern European countries are more likely to comply, but good luck going cashless in Southern and Eastern countries in the near future.
I agree with the financial institutions making it harder, not arguing that.
If you had used Revolut to receive the payment of selling those sats on robosats, they wouldn't even know you were selling sats. That's why the attack is mostly on custodial services.
The fragment I quoted specifically talks about CASPs, which can be consider any organization involved in the transfer of cryptos. But as I said, I don't think calling self-custody wallets CASPs willt hold in court.
#m=image%2Fgif&dim=360x199&blurhash=iB6IZ%3AQmHuugVFVZpuVZnPUXU_mop%5DVGeAu2VtenptZ*VdpWeWVupEnjaiXhVur_kiaPn-X2oNbISbjJoNkQajflfzaibb&x=a3ec96371a45b08ee47d713f005cb0f4bb60c5813e6875f355a34edf8bbd5e4f
The only part I see it could be stretched to cover self-custodial wallets is this:
"According to the agreement, CASPs will need to apply customer due diligence measures when carrying out transactions amounting to €1000 or more. It adds measures to mitigate risks in relation to transactions with self-hosted wallets."
The wallet developers aren't "carrying out transactions" so this would only affect LSPs. Since LN wallets with embedded nodes can use different LSP or none at all, this would realistically only apply to services such as LN addresses *a la Zeus*...
So, don't get Zapped over 1000€, I guess?
2 hours of large vs small relays discussion incoming? 🫡
