Yay! The pussy willows are now out. It really must be spring.

The English seaside in winter can be a trifle cold, windy, and depressing. It was exactly so when I was in Brighton, at this time of year, a few years back - contemplating the ruins of the West Pier...

I'm in Cumbria this week, and a lot of the stone walls and banks have lovely, yellow poppies growing on them. I do like a California poppy.

I'm going to start the week with a cockatoo.

"The word cockatoo dates from the 17th century and is derived from Dutch kaketoe, which is from Malay kakatua. Seventeenth-century variants include cacato, cockatoon and crockadore, and cokato, cocatore and cocatoo were used in the eighteenth century."

For all that, they are very intelligent and entertaining creatures.

This picture is in square format.

The Musée de l'Orangerie, in Paris, houses Monet's huge waterlilly paintings, which he created for the state in the aftermath of WWI. He helped to design the oval galleries where they are displayed, but died shortly before the museum was officially opened.

When I'm in Paris, I nearly always go and visit this space. It's one of the most perfect marriages of art and setting that I know, and its tranquility stands in marked contrast to the nearby Louvre.

I know. Human gullibility and expensive vanity projects are nothing new though, it seems. 🙄

This, apparently, is my 1,000th "toot" posting.

What's not to like about a rainbow?

No doubt there is a really good scientific explanation as to why the sky is always a different colour under and over the rainbow, but I'm not sure I need to know it.

Somewhere, over the rainbow, skies are, in fact, not usually blue...
