I'm trying to decide if Mastodon is interesting like a modernist new town, idealism that hasn't quite adapted to the reality of humans, and if so whether that makes it an interesting failure, or whether good opportunities really remain (hope the latter).
I'm slowly working through "Seeing Like A State" and looking for parallels...

It makes me wonder who is managing to lobby the government so successfully that this is a good idea.
I don't understand the international politics involved, but at the Five Eyes level it's not clear to me why being an outlier would be good.
Maybe it's less spook-y orgs pushing, but then I wonder why the case isn't being made more publicly.
It just makes the UK look weirdly authoritarian.
