The non-Catholic congregations that I'm aware of don't issue divorce or annulment certificates, they leave it all to the State. As you can imagine, however, there is no uniformity among all the different non-Catholic denominations.

I personally favor the separation of marriage and the State.

Pres. Theodore Roosevelt “intervened in the United Mine Workers strike in 1902, ordering the mine owners to agree to arbitration. Should they instead remain obstinate, he threatened to order the army to take over and operate the coal mines. Well known is TR’s outburst, when told that the Constitution did not permit the confiscation of private property: ‘To hell with the Constitution when the people want coal!’ Less well known is that at one point TR summoned General John M. Schofield, instructing him: ‘I bid you pay no heed to any other authority, no heed to a writ from a judge, or anything else excepting my commands.’ He was to stand ready, at TR’s command, to seize the mines from the operators and run them for the government.

“When House Republican Whip James E. Watson heard the plan, he objected to the Republican president’s face: ‘What about the Constitution of the United States? What about seizing private property without due process of law?’ Roosevelt shot back, ‘The Constitution was made for the people and not the people for the Constitution.’”

“For there has already been enough time spent in doing what the Gentiles choose to do: carrying on in unrestrained behavior, evil desires, drunkenness, orgies, carousing, and lawless idolatry. They are surprised that you don’t join them in the same flood of wild living—and they slander you. They will give an account to the One who stands ready to judge the living and the dead.”

Just like before:

Yep. And as JFK said when someone told him to fire Hoover: "You don't fire God."

That's interesting since Rumble and X don't collect taxes "for the government." I wonder if Google just actually keeps that money? 🤔

"I’d rather deal with the Mafia than I would with any agency of the US Government.

"Even under the worst circumstances, even if the Mafia controlled the United States, I can’t believe Tony Soprano or Al Capone would try to steal 40% of people’s income from them every year. They couldn’t get away with it. "

I just started reading: The Unseen Realm: Recovering the Supernatural Worldview of the Bible, (Bellingham, WA: Lexham Press, 2015) by Michael S. Heiser.

I just finished reading: The Date of the Exodus: In Light of the External Evidence (Edinburgh: T & T Clark, 1925) by J. W. Jack.

What's everyone reading right now? and/or what did you just finish reading?

“It is one of those irreconcilable conflicts that will end only in one way, one or the other must be exterminated. ... We must act with vindictive earnestness against the Sioux, even to their extermination, men, women and children.” “The more Indians we can kill this year, the less will have to be killed next year,” wrote Sherman. “They all have to be killed or be maintained as a species of paupers.”

–General Sherman, quoted in Lew Rockwell, *Against the State*, pp. 42-43.

Yeah, I've heard of the expectation of getting things for "free" as being part of the fiat, Web 2.0 mindset.

I'm no fan of a subscription model either, but I think I could get with a pay per use model, which I don't see as the same exact thing. Like if I want to read a particular article or note/post, I might be willing to pay for that with a micro-payment of a few sats, possibly. I'm not sure, though, because it hasn't really been tested, to my knowledge.

Just hope they don't inherit what you should be getting...

Indeed. Yeah, I read they follow the Julian Calendar, implemented by Julius Caesar, which only had 355 days, which is obviously incorrect. However, their Easter also follows Passover since the Jews also use an old lunisolar calendar...

Happy Pentecost nostr:npub1v9vm3606g9dhrdemxkhx35q3m2kza5l3xzezgdjggs9fxsgyp5wqt0tqnj and to all my fellow believers in the Messiah, and to those who do not (yet) believe!

If you know the story (see the Book of the Acts of the Apostles, chapter 2), then you know that this is the appropriate emoji: 🔥

Traditionally, Pentecost also has a connection to when God's people Israel left Egypt and received the covenant at Mt. Sinai. I'm not Catholic, but this is a great explanation:

I appreciate that the Catholic and Orthodox churches (although there is really only one Church) pay more attention to things like this (I mean Church traditions) than most Evangelical churches do anymore. If you don't believe me, just see if your Protestant church even mentions that it is Pentecost today at church.

However, since the Orthodox Easter only just took place 2 weeks ago, their Pentecost will take place on June 23, 2024. This raises the question of which churches are celebrating Pentecost on the correct day? (not that it is so important a matter that we should divide over it.) I do wish we could settle on which date is correct, if either one, since the 2000th birthday of the Church is coming up in just a few years, in A.D. 2033 (if we have correctly dated the year of our Lord's death and resurrection).

Happy birthday, Church!

I am a small "c" catholic in the sense that I belong to the universal, global Church, just not the Roman Catholic Church.
