we don't need nostr because it would be trivial for elon to just add stripe support to twitter and let us send each other invoices and payments for tweets, enumerated in us dollars so we don't have to install weird software or get a bitcoin wallet.

what clients support this, iris doesn't appear to. i just see the text data uri
to sneak by my policy, it would either have to be hiding miner code in its own source code which, i haven't looked but somebody probably would have found by now; or it is being snuck in via some sort of offsite call that is injecting the code into an event handler specifically which would have to be run in the foreground which would block the thread terribly.
i believe iris has to do its elliptic curve calculations in pure javascript because there aren't accelerated crypto api for its particular implementation. a bunch of operations are done in a service worker in the background. if it were done in the foreground it would constantly be halting the main thread to do that calculation. I hasd similar issues years ago coding ethereum web3 stuff and had to solve it the same way, move a bunch of stuff to a worker thread in the background
I have been running my own copy of iris and spent a couple days fiddling with it constantly in chrome inspector while testing changes to the code and to a custom content security policy i have installed. i have it locked down so it can't sneak any code in from another site. I've been watching traffic emanating from iris. I can't say it with 100% assurance, but it would be really difficult to hide a crypto miner from me right now, I'd probably see it getting batches and submitting results or trying to make an offsite request for javascript. if it were trying to run external code it would be failing rather than running the miner/whatever due to the CSP, but i still see iris running hot. I cannot absolutely rule it out but i strongly think it's not running a miner.

I'm not here to crap on nostr, I really do just want to try to help you guys and gals avoid some of the big problems we went through. I got passive-aggressive because I built a crypto thing for the Fediverse that was used for years. But nostr zapping is better integrated into the system and more people are using it than ever used my system. A large part of this is because we were doing it before Lightning Network (in my opinion) became usable so we had transaction fees and transaction clearing time usability issues so we went with making a tip bot and a custodial wallet you could easily withdraw from. We onboarded a bunch of people into crypto that had never been interested in crypto before and I've had people tell me that getting them involved had life-changing consequences for them so I'm proud of it even though comparatively only a handful of people used it.
we were tipping people crypto 10grans tokens on the fediverse three years ago via custodial wallet and monero/eth onchain before nostr existed with mitra. being early doesn't actually matter, adoption does, but that remains to be seen as you mentioned most people have no clue. send me zaps
to be charitable, everybody finds stuff for the first time at a different time. everybody is here because of bitcoin but a nonzero number of people got into bitcoin for freedom and not just fat stacks so i am giving people the benefit of the doubt
