PTSD and/or Anxiety & Depression can be debilitating and affects thousands out there. I am one such person but I am fortunate enough to recognise when I am being affected and I have people around me who also see the signs sometimes before I do. One thing that I found helps is my photography particularly my wildlife work which gets me out and about in nature. My photography journey began 20 years ago when pressure from work started adversely affecting my MH. I found photography took my mind off things and allowed me to do something positive and creative and over the years it has helped me deal with the issues. Thanks to Adam for highlighting this and to anyone suffering there is hope out there and help can be found in the most unlikely places. Stay safe and keep positive.

Great image Adam. I have just been diagnosed as having PTSD following 30+ year Police Service (even though I am retired for 3 years). Until now I thought I was suffering some stress and anxiety but not really knowing why. It was identified after an assessment and counselling session by Talking Therapies but they now say I have to be referred for more specific treatment / counselling. Unfortunately I’ll have to wait several months before getting any assistance on the NHS but thankfully I have a good support system and photography keeps me sane.

A while back I spent some time in Ireland and I was given access to a woodland hide through a friend. I managed to photograph some nice woodland birds included this little Wren. I was happy as it came close enough for me to capture a decent image despite being in a pretty dark area meaning I was shooting at ridiculously high ISO.

This image was captured on the night of the terrorist attack in London near Borough Market in 2017. Little did we realise at the time how close we were to the attack site and but for the dramatic lighting and clouds from an incoming storm we would have walked up to the market instead. Someone watched over us that night.
