Here is the second picture of my great horned owlet.

After we got to a safe distance to observe the owl it fell asleep! That made me feel good since I know we were not in any danger from the mom and we were not disturbing it.

I was walking down on of the nature trails when my friend told me to look up and about 5-6 ft above me was this great horned owlet! Knowing that the mom could be nearby I slowly headed back up the trail.

We found a spot at a safe distance to photograph and observe the owlet.

I was checking out a new area to do some birding and was greeted by the vocalization of a bald eagle. I spotted it in a tree and after about 30 minutes it came over flying near me at eye level allowing me to get this picture of it descending.

I was at the local park and there is always a great blue heron that likes to sit on the fishing pier. As I went down to visit it I noticed it had just finished a meal of some sort and looked like it was going through the digestive process.

I had never really seen the tongue on a heron before, so this was quite fascinating.

Last year I made my first trip to Elkin, North Carolina to explore the area. I ventured into the downtown area and noticed this bridge that was built in 1899 was listed a photo opportunity on their map.

With this still being an active rail line, I carefully framed this shot and gave it a vintage look in post processing.

A great blue heron catching a bluegill for breakfast along the rocks at the Falls Lake Dam/Tailrace area located in Wake Forest, North Carolina.

This is a common spot for herons, ospreys and even bald eagles to catch fish as they release the water from the dam into the Neuse River.
