✨ Announcing the release of Cashu.me – a Cashu wallet for the web! ✨

Cashu.me is a Chaumian Ecash wallet for Bitcoin built as a progressive web app (PWA). Today, we're excited to announce its first release and would like to thank all developers and users who have helped to build and improve this wallet. Cashu.me is free and open-source software released under the MIT license.

To get started, open Cashu.me in your browser and install it to add it to your home screen. We recommend to use your device's native browser for the best experience. Beware that Ecash is a bearer asset which means that if you delete your browser data or lose access to your device without a proper backup (see below), you will lose your funds. Use this wallet only for small spending amounts.

New Features

Countless new features for this release give you the best possible Ecash experience. We're bringing this ancient crypto technology back into the 21st century and present you a modern interpretation of the original cypherpunk vision - built on Bitcoin.

Well, that's nuts! 🥜 Are you planning on wrapping it as APK and uploading to app stores? At least obtanium?

The background here is that Jack likely read the article from Roy 😉

I resonate with nostr:npub1ey6qdmvzcgcsr883m9nspzz0mm037l26xtardzcskfsvc6gc7jssm9szvp that we no longer need orange pilling, we need to solve problems, have better experience and better brand.

It's no longer efficient to explain to people that Bitcoin fixes the core economic equilibrium by making it harder for people at power to bend the rules (and print more money).

It's now much better to show them "hey I have app like Wise that makes it 3% cheaper to send money internationally bank to bank", or "hey, you can get this much simpler POS for your business and you don't pay anyone", or "hey, here's much easier way for you to split the bill with your friends", or "hey, you can get all your bills paid automatically without extra fee using this solution", or "hey, here you can publish your indie music and you will actually get money right away and no need to pay any leeches", or "hey here's amazing topic based social experience where you can hang out with your friends"...

Problem solving rather than problem documenting.

Are we being tricked into deciding between communism and fascism?

I have some sats that I need to get boating accidented. What are the best options currently?

In bittorrent there isn't really a concept of "seeding is completed" you just have "seeders" that seed and at some point stop seeding. You have many people fetching the content from these seeders when they need/want the files.

So you can pay seeders for seeding, but if they decide to stop at 99% of download of large file, then that's hard to prevent and you may need to use social / reputation / web-of-trust for that - luckily that's what Nostr is good at.

There isn't really a contract - you have 2 parties, one is sending sats every minute, another one is continuing seeding. If sats stop appearing, seeder may stop seeding OR if seeder stops seeding, you stop sending them sats and find another seeder.

Also note that anyone downloading the data sort of automatically becomes seeder while they download and after they finish.

Just handwaving the solution, but your nostr client would keep sending 4 sat zaps every minute to the seeder while checking that the file is still available and downloadable (somehow?). When the seeder notices zaps are no longer sent, they can decide to stop seeding.

This is somewhat similar to how value4value is implemented in podcasting - like in Fountain or Breez, the difference is that there the "stream" of sats is voluntary, not in expectation of service.
