Here in Australia 26°C is a perfect spring day! A week of days around 40°C is a heatwave..

Lunch time walk through the city

Peering itself is relatively cheep (once you have purchased the routers to do it, data centre space to host them, cross connects to the peering exchange etc). The more expensive part is generally the upstream IP transit services to reach the rest of the Internet that you can’t reach through peering.

How to fund it I think is the biggest challenge. There are plenty of devs working on smaller projects though, even some here in Australia, so while we might not get the “big name” devs coming there could still be plenty of interesting content.

I haven’t been walking quite as much over the last couple of months with the cooler weather here, as well as having had a lot going on at work, but now that it’s the first day of spring I plan to get back to doing a minimum of 10000 steps per day. #proofofwalk

I was I interested to look a bit more at how they do compare so I ran up an instance of each in a VM. The installation process is pretty similar for both of them. These screenshots should give an idea of the difference in the interface. OPNsense looks a bit nicer.

After spending the last couple of weeks at work testing various standard residential grade routers and troubleshooting weird issues with them I would definitely agree that anything is better.. I haven’t tried OPNSense myself either but I’ve seen it recommended over pfSense recently. General functionality is probably pretty similar with both.

I think we are going to have to organise one here ourselves Marie..

Afternoon walk

It’s been a while since I looked at that list, I have to go back through it and follow some more people.

I thought you were an elite Nostr influencer now Marie. You can make this decision while the CEO is sleeping! 😂

It’s 23 here today but I think feels colder due to the wind. Back down to 17 tomorrow and rain again..

Morning walk. Sun is out but pretty windy.
