Everyone thinks they will be the benevolent dictator.
There will be many L2s. Liquid, ecash, ark, spark ect. If a user is paying someone in a different L2 then the transfer of value will between the two will be in lightning.
If it’s in the same L2 such as liquid > liquid or a transaction within the same ecash/fedi mint then no lightning will be needed.
They have stated both goals. They aim to crack down on what they perceive to be either far left or far right protestors. The free Palestine protestors are certainly a huge target.
Hate speech laws are already being used against the NSN. They claim they want to increase this even more. No doubt they also want to use this against left wing protestors. Anyone who has a radical ideology that upsets the happy power structures.
Maybe everything is a psyop.
But psyops or not, more government power, more laws and more restrictions on speech are never a good thing.
They are thinking about lightning as a L2 communication layer. As the common connective tissue between different scaling solutions rather than the direct point of end user intreatction and custody.
I am going to have to disagree.
Evil really is a thing.
You can chose not to live in fear of evil.
You can know that love will triumph over evil.
But evil is real.
Additionally they are looking to criminalise any form of “inciting hate” and are going to be loosening the laws around classifications of terrorist organisations with the stated goal of including a newly forming far right political party under the new definition.
It just feels like a ratchet that keeps getting tighter…tighter…
If something doesn’t snap its hard to imagine what this place looks like in 10 years.
It is really ramping up.
They really do never let a good crisis go to waste.
I do find it a hard balance.
I know I could go through life ignoring what I know is happening around me. Push out of my mind that the cage I am in is shrinking by the day and simply enjoy life.
You need to find the sweet spot between knowing what is happening and speaking about it without blackballed and debilitated. Maintain gratitude in what you have. Still try to spread joy to those around you. But do not let yourself ignore the evils.
Find peace in reality no matter how dark rather than hiding from it no matter how tempting I may find that option.
Evil will always exist.
Love will need to be appropriately defined.
Love is not indiscriminate tolerance or acceptance.
It may be possible to reach a state where you can truly love your enemy.
But there will always be an enemy and they will not love you.
The machine will just keep on pushing.
Attention will keep on being snatched away.
Narratives give way one to the next.
Too exhausting to keep up.
No accountability.
No real debate.
Just an endless slide into the abyss.
I think I will be lucky to keep my nerf blaster once they are done.

- New hate speech laws

I am done with directing other peoples dating apps.
I had a friend who was on a dating app and I was swiping for her with her giving the final say. There was one guy who I liked the look of but she did not want to swipe yes. I convinced her to give him a go - “at least chat to him and you can always deleting him later” I said.
Well they ended up matching and meeting up. The next time I saw her she told me she was pregnant and it was with the guy I swiped on! She told me that I was the reason she was going to have a baby. At the time she seemed happy enough. Surprised that her life had taken this unexpected turn and just sort of amused at how it happened from a guy she did not even want to swipe on.
The next time I saw her it was a different story. She was still pregnant but they had broken up and it seemed he did not want to have much to do with her. She was mad at me - “This is all your fault! I never would have swiped on him! I am going to be a single mother because of you!”…yeah. Anyway we dont talk anymore. I hope she is doing ok.
My fear that hits me now and then is that with the attacks on privacy even bitcoin becomes the monitored digital currency permitting extensive control. Sure bitcoin might be “censorship resistant” in the sense that you CAN send it to any address but for the majority of people using KYCd coins is it really censorship resistant if sending an unauthorised transaction gets you arrested?

Once upon a time Trump thought it was suspicious and that it was bombs as well as a plane.
People thought they were getting an outsider with him that would speak the truth but he is strangly quiet about so many things now that he has power.

My only other request would be if the new note notification was displayed at the top of the feed not in the middle and displayed over other note text. I am not sure if this is a bug or how it is meant to look. Resizing the window does not change where it is located. 
The taxes on smokes are so high here they all do that. It’s less than half price to buy a pack in the black market than it is paying tax for them.

Yes our brain filters out so much of what we can perceive not to mention all of the things that we can not perceive that are out there all around us all the time. What would it even mean to sense everything? It is hard to imagine adding one extra sense. How could you comprehend vision if you had never seen? How could we comprehend all the things we do not even have a way to experience with our current physical limitations?
Like levelling up a video game character.
But at the end of the day for me it is hard not to be left feeling empty from these activities. You know fundamentally they are not “real”.
That is why there is so much sense of meaninglessness in our world.
This is reminding me of The Unibomber Manifesto - Industrial Society and Its Future. He talks a lot about how in our modern world people cling to what he calls surrogate activities and many of the problems that arise from this.
