I initially started by buying parts of AliExpress to build a mobile node and a base station node at home. I discovered that there was someone else I had previously known through work that had a few nodes deployed and after talking to him we found a good location that would connect my house to his nodes.
We are lucky here that the city is surrounded by hills so putting a few nodes on the hills as routers gives good coverage (some of these are hidden nodes deployed in out of the way places where people hopefully don’t find them). HeyWhatsThat is a useful site for figuring out where to deploy nodes that have good line of sight and coverage:
The other thing that has helped is that the Meshtastic community here has a few people who have previously worked in wireless ISPs or are ham radio operators so there is some useful experience with planning and deploying wireless equipment.
I saw zero devices when I first started a few months ago but now we have a good community here and I’ve got over 100 nodes in my list (not all online at once though). If you can get some nodes up on hills/rooftops/towers it helps get a lot better coverage.
Are there any specific Meshtastic firmware versions that are people running and finding to be very stable?
This node is being installed next weekend but once it is 25 metres up the tower I will have very limited access for upgrades. I’m hoping I’ll still have bluetooth access from the base of the tower for future OTA upgrades but want it to be stable to start with to avoid having to do that and the possibility of bricking it..

Yeah it isn’t quite clear what is meant by that. As far as I understand the existing code is developed by an industry association so is really up to the social media companies to voluntarily enforce themselves.
Agreed. We still have the kids social media ban to deal with though, that one is more likely to pass the senate I think.
I like edits or at least the theory behind them. I make typos. I want to fix the typos. However, nostr:nprofile1qqsrhuxx8l9ex335q7he0f09aej04zpazpl0ne2cgukyawd24mayt8gprfmhxue69uhhq7tjv9kkjepwve5kzar2v9nzucm0d5hszxmhwden5te0wfjkccte9emk2um5v4exucn5vvhxxmmd9uq3xamnwvaz7tmhda6zuat50phjummwv5hsx7c9z9 has convinced me that they're bad. His editing and the gamification of his edits are fun, but if hundreds of people in my feeds are doing this, then it would immediately degrade my experience. I would hate it. It would be annoying.
I now see edits as an attack vector and a performance degrader.
Maybe we need a maximum number of edits? 3? I don't know. I'm just thinking out loud.
Maybe we just do away with them altogether? 👀
Thoughts?
One of the “features” that I enjoy about Nostr is the lack of editing and deleting notes (yes, you can delete if the client supports it but there are no guarantees it will be deleted). I think it makes interactions more authentic and more thought goes into notes because, like in real life, you have to take responsibility for what you say. You can’t just delete/edit and pretend it was never said.
Good lamb rocks. This was Aussie lamb. Never had lamb in USA. Have no idea of the quality. I know nostr:npub1f5pre6wl6ad87vr4hr5wppqq30sh58m4p33mthnjreh03qadcajs7gwt3z sells lamb for sats. BaaaaBaaa
Is lamb not as common in the US as it is in Australia? It’s usually easy to get decent quality lamb here at a reasonable price.
Meowtastic is a simple iOS #Meshtastic client designed for less advanced users. I tried this out tonight and it looks pretty nice. Here is a quick screen recording to give some idea of what the interface looks like.

I just realised it is only one month to go until my 2 year #nostr anniversary! At least that is according to when nostr.band says I was first active which I think seems correct.
Mary had a little lamb. Thing is, it’s now missing a leg
About 20 minutes to go

I generally avoid buying honey from the grocery stores here now as it is hard to tell what you are really getting and where it is from. I either buy from one of the small producers at the farmer’s market or another locally produced organic raw honey that I can get at some of the health food type stores.
Something a little different to the photos I normally post on Nostr, these are a few photos taken at the local Christmas pageant this morning. #christmas

The privacy issues with modern cars have been brought up before on Nostr but it is good to see this getting some wider coverage.
I’m seeing an issue with messages. It shows that I have 2 messages but they don’t show up in “follows” or “other”. This was with a different npub I use for testing that has been used with many different clients so potentially some sort of interoperability issue with messages from other clients?
Yes, I’ve also been experimenting with the YakiHonne iOS app. It is also very nice.
