This would never have happened on a responsible OS like Fedora
Solving the Debian upgrade issue was about as simple as I expected. After some searching, the theory seems to be that timestamps were wrong in the apt list files, so simply removing them refreshed the repo data. Hard to understand why commands like "apt clean" or similar do nothing about this.
I guess it's time to switch back to Fedora
Looks like my spare netbook decided simply not to upgrade from Debian 12.7 to 12.8, even though all my other devices did. I even tried waiting a few days but to no avail. Somehow this conforms to my decades past experience with Debian based systems; it's nice until something goes wrong.
