Some thoughts on various moderation systems:

Authoritarian - central authority makes all of the decisions with no input from the community. good (mostly) for adherence to terms, bad for fairness and transparency. bad for scaling.

Peer-to-peer - users make all of the decisions with no input from any authority. good for user control, but not great for scaling as very few would be willing to spend the time to moderate effectively. unhelpful for new user experience.

Democratic - community makes all of the decisions by arriving at a consensus through voting. good for fairness and transparency, unproven for scaling or adherence to terms.

It is far more effective to fight bad ideas with information than isolation.

Several users have requested in the past that Minds start treating comments the same way as regular posts (similar to Twitter).

This would make comments much more shareable and discoverable, even boostable, as they would essentially behave the same way as a post but with added context that it is a reply to someone else.

Not an immediate priority as we are still focusing mainly on ways to have more trust in the rewards and recommendation systems, but something worth considering later on.

What do you think?

Building decentralized methods of verifying the authenticity of accounts is one of the biggest needs of social media today.

Twitter hasn't figured it out. Instagram hasn't figured it out.

We are going to figure it out. https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1371940095329832972

Pretty much all replies on tweets from the @minds account on twitter get placed behind a sensitive wall. Almost always, the replies are not sensitive in any way.

No transparency into how those decisions get made.

Here's to hoping Elon actually open sources it all, but I am not holding by breath. https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1371937399403188243

Town Hall next Thursday!

This is a great opportunity for anyone in the community to speak directly with the Minds team. We want to hear what you all have to say and hope everyone can make it.

Lots to talk about with the Elon news, Minds product updates, and some of the awesome stuff we have planned for the next quarter.

Hope to see you all there :) https://www.minds.com/newsfeed/1371202904169385998
