Emacs has a tabs-to-spaces feature when you hit the tab key. But Makefiles require actual tabs not any whitespace (p.s. NEVER do this!).

So to get a tab, I can't type it. I have to copy-paste it from somewhere else. (Ok I could actually toggle the spaces-to-tabs feature but that requires remembering some "incantation".)

Result: all my Makefile tabs are descendants of a tab in a Makefile I was banging my head on, trying to figure out WTF was wrong, in a CS assignment at Yale in 1994.

Coders, dont become your AI "helper's" janitor!!!

I have a .emacs I copied from someone in 1991 and he got it from someone else prior to that. This one file has been existing and evolving for at least 35 years!

How do people sit in a conf room and decide "How about we play "power low, please charge" every 30 sec, just to piss our customers off completely, and to reduce the product's useful battery life by 10%. Then, just to rub salt in the wounds, we'll have it say *powering off* just before actually shutting down, proving to all that our BMI is sophisticated enough to guarantee that we could have warned the user just once."
