Nice to meet you :)

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

This sounds so unnecessarily complicated and bound to fail.

Conceptually though it sounds pretty similar to the nascent zap culture. Something about rewarding content creators. But that’s not actually what is playing out.

I don’t know what steemit is.

I have a limited understanding of things but I don’t think the zaps are used in running the network. Not from a technical standpoint.

People can send sats (bitcoin) to the developers who are building on the network though. They have lightning integration. That part I think has interesting potential.

Cool. That’s why I’m here too. Not a techy but I like to try new and exciting things.

Thanks for the relay list. I’ll give some a try.

When you say they sync with the Fediverse does that mean that when my notes get written on those relays they’ll be read by people in the Fediverse? (Lol this all sounds a bit like sci-fi)

Interesting.

What made you come here rather than stay on the Fediverse?

The relay you’re mentioning is a relay I would connect to using nostr? Just like all the other relays?

I’ve always wanted to try taekwondo.

I started with karate. Then boxing. Then muay thai and I just started getting into krav maga. I also have a Tai chi practice.

Very cool that you’re a defense instructor. I do a lot of martial arts. I know it’s technically not the same thing but I enjoy this general realm.

Thank you. I didn’t understand any of the technical terms but I think I get the gist.

I’ll check out what you sent.

Did you come from the fediverse? Is there a predominant culture on the fediverse like there is here?

What is the fediverse?

Is there any way I can see that conversation or thread or whatever?

I agree that there doesn’t seem to be a lot of actual discussions about the fundamental philosophies of what they’re building and how to build in ways that uphold those philosophies. At least I haven’t found any but I’ve only been here like two days.

I also don’t know if different devs have different underlying philosophies but I’d really like to see manifestos or something. And it would be cool if real conversations were happening around these in order to make them truly reflective of their values.

I assume some sort of client market will emerge and that people can use the ones they feel aligns with them and their priorities. Some only care about user experience and some actually care about free speech.

Do other clients have client agreements? I’ve only tried Damus and it has one.

The iris dev removing nip verification seems harmless. I guess a rape threat goes against his terms of use. And from what I understand the user could get nip verification elswehere.

Shared blocklists I fully disagree with.

I’ve seen some people sharing relays that are committed to free speech so that’s good.

And it’s unfortunate that you raising some issues were taken as personal attacks.

There’s obviously a lot to think about. I don’t know if anyone is taking time to meditate on what they’re building.

Are there thought leaders? If so, who are they?

I’m really sorry but I don’t know what this means or how it relates to the zap culture.

I see a lot of people here very tied to their identities and maybe even some micro-celebrities?

So far I’ve had more interesting interactions with people who are anonymous or semi-anonymous.

What do you mean?

Who is mammon?

Interesting point about the rush of power.

I would love to see an anthropologist/psychologist comment on the mainstream nostr crowd.

They’re programming themselves to zap above all else. Losing all nuance and renouncing real interactions. Making everything entirely one dimensional. And it seems they haven’t actually thought through the environments bred by zaps.

Seems ironic to care so much about financial freedom to then renounce their neurological freedom and create a central zap authority.

When I first came on here and started browsing all I saw were people talking about zaps, posting memes about zaps, asking for zaps, posting excitedly about getting zaps. Lightning emojis everywhere. I didn’t even know what it was at the time but it totally gave me internet crack vibes.
